Meanwhile, our heritage and arts programme offers
the chance to enjoy learning new skills – or brushing
up some old ones – with classes on everything from
computer skills and photography to jewellery-making
and watercolour painting.
There is also fun for children during the spring holidays
with the chance to enjoy drama, 3D art or even
some superhero training courses. An environmental
theme runs through a lot of our activities, including a
programme of art at the Waterworks Park in Barrhead.
Our award-winning libraries will, of course, continue
2017 as they left 2016 with a range of terrific events,
including readings from some of
Scotland's most popular authors.
So, a new programme for a new
year. We hope you enjoy it.

THE CAUSE OF THUNDER
Monday 6 March, 7.30pm
PROFESSIONAL THEATRE
A funny thing happened on the way to the pub… Bob
Cunningham thought he saw a man ascend into the sky.
It’s two years after the referendum, and Bob Cunningham has
stuff on his mind: whether or not to take early retirement;
politics, of course, and what to do about the No vote, Brexit,
Corbyn… and that weird thing about rising into the heavens.
To make matters worse he discovers that Ethel, his ex-, who
he hasn’t seen in 20 years, will be back in town later tonight.
It puts him in storytelling mood - Bob’s one of life’s raconteurs
- all the while trying to decide what to do about Ethel, and
whether his life’s work done. Is he finished? Can he come to
terms with his, and his country’s, past, and future?
Performed by David Hayman, written by Chris Dolan,

HORSE: CAREFUL
Thursday 16 March, 7.30pm
“There are times in life when you need to be
careful: growing up gay in Lanark in the 70’s, when
the reward is half a pack of fruit pastilles, when
the lady on the train tells you about the doctor
you should meet. These would be some of those
times, but you’ll always be saved if you use your
voice”. Horse McDonald takes us on a journey
from wearing two-tone velvet loons to being
one of Scotland’s most celebrated singers, and
through those times when she had to be... Careful.
Written by Lynn Ferguson and Directed by Maggie
Kinloch, ‘Careful’ is Horse McDonald’s spellbinding
debut play. Join Horse afterwards for a live audience
Q&A with director Maggie Kinloch, as well as hit songs

away all the veneer and upset the delicate
balance of their home life.
Laced with coruscating wit, Edward Albee’s
dark comedy won him the first of three
Pulitzer Prizes and followed the success
of the hugely successful Who’s Afraid of
Virginia Woolf?

The weird and wonderful family comes
to devilishly delightful life in this original
show. Wednesday Addams has fallen
in love with a sweet, smart young man
from a respectable family. A man her
parents have never met. And if that
weren’t upsetting enough, she confides
in her father and begs him not to tell
her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must
keep a secret from his beloved wife,
Morticia. Everything will change for the
whole family on the fateful night they
host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal”
boyfriend and his parents.

This exciting musical comedy is based on
Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. It takes us into
the American mid-west in 1955 and tells the
story of Natalie, who dreams of “hitting the
road” and Chad, a rock ‘n’ roll loving biker,
who stops at the town’s garage to have
his bike repaired. Natalie, the mechanic,
immediately falls for him. The show follows
all the “will they won’t they” drama, set
to a fabulous score full of those wonderful
Elvis songs we know and love. There are of
course a few hilarious hiccups and surprises
along the way, building to a fantastic triple
wedding finale.
