Science Fair Rules and Guidelines
Participants and Groups: Projects can be worked on and presented by an individual
or in groups of 2 or 3.
Classes in grades K – 2 will be completing a class project in school. Children in these
grades can present this project at the science fair OR they can create their own project
at home. Students in grades 3 – 5 will be completing their projects at home, unless
their teacher specifies otherwise.
Safety Rules: No hazardous chemicals, open flame, torches or burners may be used.
Cultures of molds and bacteria must be thoroughly sealed. Animals must be treated
humanely.
Entry Form: The Entry Form is included in this packet. These forms must be filled out
and returned to school on Monday, December 15, 2014 or January 13, 2015 (the
second Monday back from winter break). The science fair committee will review ideas
for projects and give approval or suggestions. We are looking for questions that can
be tested and a well thought out plan.
Project Form: Once projects are approved, students can complete their experiements
and write up their actual results and conclusion. Completion of this form confims
students executed their plan and reserves a table for them at the science fair. If
students do not complete the project form, they will not be included in the fair.
Support Meetings: Kingsley will offer a help session after school for students who
need guidance. This session will help students develop ideas, conclusions, and push
students to answer potential questions that may be asked at the fair. Transportation
home will be provided as needed. There will be an after school bus for students who
need transportation home. Students must be picked up at bus drop-off stops. Please
indicate on the Entry Form if you need transportation home after the support meetings.
Science Fair: The participants must have their experiment written up and displayed on
a tri-fold board. The space on their table with be limited to 2 feet by 3 feet. The display
must stand by itself. Boards will be provided by Kingsley’s PTA. Teachers will pass
out boards on Friday, January 30, 2015, to those students who have submitted their
project forms after the science committee has reviewed the forms.
Also attached are some science project ideas. If you have an idea that is not on the
list, feel free to use your idea. However, be sure that it is testable and safe. The
science fair committee reserves the right to ask you to change your idea based on
what they see on the Entry Form.
Remember, you are going to be the teacher at the science fair. Learn a lot about your
topic and have a great deal of fun doing the project!

Project Display
Your display should show and tell. It should show your viewer what you did and
tell the viewer what the results were.
1. The display should be durable and stand by itself. It cannot be larger than 2 x 3
feet. Thick cardboard display boards will be provided by the PTA.
2. On the display you may want to include graphs, charts, photographs, or drawings
of your work. Color is good!
3. Titles and labels should be large, clear, and neat. If it is attractive and colorful,
more people will want to look at it.
4. Write clear and correctly spelled explanations and labels for everything on the
board.
5. Use the following titles for areas on your display:
