I TA LY Italy on the rise: the right partner for trade and investment T he Italian Trade Agency (ITA) is the government organisation in charge of the international development of Italian companies. ITA provides information, support and advice on foreign markets, in line with the strategies of the Ministry for Economic Development. Through its Foreign Direct Investment Unit, ITA also facilitates the establishment and development of foreign companies in Italy. ITA is headquartered in Rome and operates worldwide from a large network of trade promotion offices linked to Italian Embassies and Consulates and working closely with local authorities and businesses. The Dubai office, which is responsible for the UAE, Oman and Pakistan, is one of 81 existing branches of the Agency in the world. Gianpaolo Bruno, Italian Trade Commissioner to the UAE, shares his thoughts in an interview with Khaleej Times. Excerpts: Role of ITA The Italian Trade Agency in the UAE provides a wide range of services, which include official participation in local fairs and exhibitions, identification of possible business partners, bilateral trade meetings w ith Italian companies and trade delegation visits. In addition to that, a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) desk will be opening soon in Dubai. The desk will be a permanent interface available to investors looking for concrete business opportunities in Italy: it will identify the investors’ business needs and support them during the entire life cycle of the investment, with an emphasis on the early stages of the process. Italian businesses are currently represented by over 300 companies, including units with its own branch and many others that operate through local agents.
