In this 67th year of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots charity, the Gettysburg Battlefield Detachment #705, Marine Corps League Organizing Golf Tournament Committee, is pleased to
announce the Forth Annual U. S. Marine Corps
Reserve Toys for Tots (TFT) Golf Tournament, to
be held on July 26th 2014 at the Quail Valley Golf
Club, 901 Teeter Road, Littlestown, PA 17340.
"We're looking for a few good men, and women
too", to help a lot of underprivileged kids have a
happy and memorable holiday season in Gettysburg, Adams County.
We would appreciate you and your company
joining us in this worthy cause by being a Hole
Sponsor for our TFT Tournament. A $50 tax deductible fee for each hole will put your company's
name on a designated hole location.

Marine Corps League personally collects and distributes toys through the Marine Toys for Tots
Foundation to the needy children in Gettysburg/

TOYS FOR TOTS67 YEARS
OF SERVING HISTORY
Founded in 1947 by the late Marine Colonel Bill
Hendricks (1904-1992), the program was designed to
provide new unwrapped toys for needy children at
Christmas time. The program has grown from an
Annual Los Angeles area project to a nationwide
campaign replete with Golf Tournaments, Benefit
Concerts, Corporate involvement and, from the beginning, substantial celebrity support.
Through his contacts as a Warner Brothers executive and a member of the Advertising Club of Los
Angeles, Colonel Hendricks was able to initiate a
publicity campaign that over the years has featured
such notables as Bob Hope, John Wayne, Charlton
Heston, Janis Page, Virginia Mayo, Barbara Eden
and Earl Holliman.

An annually produced Marine Corps Reserve
TOYS FOR TOTS Poster has received much fame in
its own right. Creation of the very first Poster in 1948
including the Toys for Tots train logo, was personally
supervised by the late Walt Disney. Characters
adorning the Poster have included Mickey Mouse,
Donald Duck, Dennis the Menace, Bugs Bunny, the
Road Runner and of course, Santa Claus.

Historical milestones for the program were
reached in 1956, when the TOYS FOR TOTS theme
was composed by Oscar winning song writer Sammy
Fain and Paul Francis Webster; and in 1960, when
KABC-TV of Los Angeles received the highest nonmilitary award possible from the Commandant of the
Marine Corps for sponsorship of a spectacular TOYS
FOR TOTS Circus.
Plus One New Unwrapped Toy
Throughout the 1970's, 1980's 1990's and now in
the 2000's proven methods continue to make the program a success. During 2008, Marines nationally
collected and distributed more than 16.1 million new
toys to over 7.6 million needy youngsters. Locally, in
2013, Gettysburg/Adams County, 8,550 toys were
distributed to 2,783 underprivileged children
