Dearest Friends,
It is with great anticipation that I introduce to you the San Fernando Regional Congress theme for 2012 Dare to Ask and Receive. The
readings for the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time invite us to dwell in the prayer of the entirety of our life’s journey.
If, perhaps, our life was considered the compilation of prayerful acts, from the simple gesture of a morning kiss to a child, to an intricate discernment of larger life choices, might we not then significantly shift how we know our God? Might we be better able to recognize our God in the ordinariness of our gifted lives? Would our prayer be confined to the moments of silence we hold in our homes or in the reading of beautiful poetry;
in the gatherings in our churches, or in the songs we sing in praise? Or might it be possible that the whole lived experience of the journey, from
moment to moment, could be received as a prayerful dialogue between our God, ourselves, and essentially the world? Perhaps, we only just need to
ask for such an awareness and receive the ever-flowing response in the moments of our lives.
Through every glimpse of our lived experience, the Lord upholds the dignity of our lives, awaiting our openness to receive the generously offered
sustenance for the complexities of the journey’s ever-shifting turns. Within the intricacy of life’s realities, sometimes consumed with the transgressions of the world and captured by desperate prayer yearning to be heard from our hearts, ours is a God who offers gentleness and patience, as we
slowly come to receive God’s every-residing presence in it all. The simple gesture of asking our God no longer binds us to shamefulness, jealousy,
or selfishness, as we are able to receive, like a child, the ever complicated, peaceful, and revealing nature of our God’s faithful response all around
and within us.
So…Who are we asking to be? Who are we asking to receive? We question so as to recognize the fullness; listen so as to receive the beauty of relationship; and act on the gift which is fundamentally our very own lives-- the purest form of grace made known.
Perhaps, that is the prayer of the journey of faith, and ours is a God who merely awaits our reception to live it.
You are invited to gather as a community of believers on Saturday, September 22, 2012. You may choose three workshops. Consider where you feel
you are most called to learn more about your relationship with our God, as well as where you may serve generously in an area of ministry. I look
forward to walking with you on this day when we all together, Dare to Ask and Receive.

Es con gran anticipación que presento a ustedes el tema del Congreso Regional de San Fernando 2012, Atrévete a Pedir y a Recibir. Las
lecturas del Domingo 25 en Tiempo Ordinario nos invitan a permanecer en la oración a través de toda nuestra jornada en la vida.
Si, quizás, consideráramos nuestra vida como una recopilación de actos de devoción, desde el simple gesto de un beso en la mañana a un niño, a un
intrincado discernimiento de grandes decisiones en la vida, ¿no podríamos entonces en forma significativa cambiar la forma en que nosotros conocemos a nuestro Dios? ¿Podríamos ser más capaces de reconocer a nuestro Dios en lo ordinario de nuestras bendecidas vidas? ¿Deberían nuestras
oraciones estar confinadas a los momentos de silencio que tenemos en nuestros hogares o en la lectura de bella poesía; en las reuniones en nuestras
iglesias, o en las canciones que cantamos en alabanza? ¿O podría ser posible que la completa experiencia vivida de la jornada, de momento a momento, podría ser recibida como un dialogo piadoso entre nuestro Dios, nosotros mismos y esencialmente el mundo? Quizás, lo único que necesitamos nosotros es pedir por un entendimiento y recibir el permanente flujo de respuestas en los momentos de nuestras vidas.
A través de cada instante de nuestra experiencia vivida, el Señor mantiene la dignidad de nuestras vidas, esperando nuestra apertura para recibir el
sustento ofrecido generosamente para las complejidades de los siempre cambiantes rumbos de la jornada. Dentro de los enredos de las realidades de
la vida, a veces consumidos con las transgresiones del mundo y capturados por desesperadas oraciones deseando ser escuchadas desde nuestros corazones, el nuestro es un Dios que ofrece mansedumbre y paciencia, y así nosotros lentamente llegamos a recibir la siempre presencia de Dios en
todo. El simple gesto de pedir a nuestro Dios, no nos amarra más a la vergüenza, los celos o al egoísmo, al ser nosotros capaces de recibir, como un
niño, la siempre complicada, pacífica y reveladora naturaleza de la fiel respuesta de nuestro Dios a todo nuestro alrededor y dentro de nosotros.
Así que… ¿Quien estamos pidiendo ser? ¿Que estamos pidiendo recibir? Nos preguntamos para así poder reconocer la plenitud; escuchamos para
poder recibir la belleza de la relación; y tomar acción en el regalo el cual es fundamentalmente nuestras propias vidas—la forma más pura de la
gracia dada a conocer.
Quizás, esta es la oración de la jornada de fe, y el nuestro es un Dios que simplemente espera nuestra aceptación para vivirlo.
Ustedes están invitados a reunirse como una comunidad de creyentes el Sábado, Septiembre 22, 2012. Pueden escoger tres talleres. Consideren en
cuales se sienten más llamados a aprender mejor acerca de su relación con Dios, también adonde pueden servir más generosamente en un área de un
ministerio. Espero estar caminando con ustedes en ese día cuando todos juntos decimos ¡Atrévete a Pedir y a Recibir!

100 Dare to Worship! Leading and Being Lead in Worship
Jeremy Bermender
Worship is our relationship with God. This session will pertain to
worship leaders and youth ministers alike covering the fundamental and advanced aspects of leading worship, teaching about worship, and entering into worship ourselves. This session is great for
high school youth minsters, parish worship leaders, and young
adult leaders.
Jeremy Bermender has been an active music minister for 11 years
and assistant youth minister for 6 years. He has served in the Dioceses of Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Orange County. Jeremy’s
experience ranges from traditional liturgical music to contemporary music. He also has a CD titled “We Sing” which has been
featured on Catholic Radio.
101 You Want Me To Do What, God!?
Dana Couso
Have you ever found yourself asking this of God? Sometimes in
our lives we find ourselves in situations that we feel we can't possibly do. How do we know what God is truly asking of us? How do
we discern our vocational call?
Dana has been a Director of Religious Education for the past 12
years at OLPH . She has been a Master Catechist for 6 years and
is a facilitator of Adult Faith Formation. She has been married for
almost 38 years with 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
102 The Task of Catechesis: Growing the Community of
Disciples
Katie Dawson
Every parish is a community of disciples. And Discipleship is the
goal of all of catechesis. The National Directory for Catechesis
says: “The fundamental task of catechesis is to achieve this same
objective; the formation of disciples of Jesus Christ” (NDC 59).
This workshop will focus on the important role that parish catechetical leaders play in creating and supporting the community of
disciples. We will examine the six tasks of catechesis and how to
engage children (and their parents!) effectively to embrace discipleship.
Katie has lived her life in the Church! Youth ministry, Baptism
preparation, marriage retreat leader, mom’s ministry, mother, volunteer and kitchen cleaner! Master Catechist with an MA in Theology from University of Notre Dame. Director of Evangelization
and Formation for St. John Eudes Church for 7 years, and recently
became Director of the New Evangelization for the SF Region.
103 "Help!!! I'm Growing!" Catechizing is Not Just Teaching. It's
the Ministry of Evangelizing!!!
Fr. Ken Deasy
We all need help! None of us totally "get it" even though we may
know the Truth! And we're growing!!! We all need God's grace and
each other's guidance in our personal and ministerial lives! Fr. Ken
will share with you tips, resources, experiences, ideas and insights
into what he believes is effective and enjoyable for catechizing
today with all groups; Faith making sense!

Former pastor of St. Agatha's parish and presently the Director of
the Holy Childhood Association, Los Angeles. Fr. Ken, author of
“Get Off The Cross; Someone Else Needs The
Wood” (Amazon) is a hands on, down to earth evangelizer who
helps the catechists identify their own Faith-Experiences so they
can teach with the authority of “experience.” As Director of the
Holy Childhood Association, he travels throughout the Archdiocese speaking to students, teacher/catechists and parish communities on the experience of Catholic Missions in over 90 countries,
1150 (Arch)dioceses. Recently the HCA directed 100% of its
$450,000 raised to emergency relief of children and their families
in Haiti!
104 Laughter: Exercise for the Soul
Dione Grillo
Your call to vocation should be a source of joy! Sometimes, however, we encounter people and situations who we allow to cast
shadows of doubt, fear and insecurity over our lives and ministry.
While there is no “magic pill” or methodology to “fix it,” there is
a gift we have been given to help us through the rough patches: a
sense of humor! Come prepared to share, think, listen, pray, sing
(off-key, of course), and revel in God’s special exercise for the
soul: laughter.
Dione Grillo is the Consultant Advanced Catechetical Ministries
and Basic Catechist Formation and the Consultant for Elementary
Catechesis for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Formerly she
served as Director of Children's Ministry at St. John Eudes
Church in Chatsworth, CA. While her educational background
prepared her to attend law school, she opted instead to answer the
call to service. She has served on the Early Childhood Board for
10 years and has presented workshops at the L.A. Religious Education Congress, Regional Congresses, and parishes.
105 Growing Old With a Christian Perspective
Anne Hansen
What does it mean to grow old in a culture that celebrates youth
and productivity? What are the Christian practices of growing
old? Explore these questions as you look at and share your own
perspective on the gift of aging.
Anne Hansen is a writer and a columnist for The Tidings. She
serves as Regional Director of the Ignatian Volunteer Corps and
is active in Bereavement Ministry training. She holds MA's in
Psychology and Pastoral Theology and co-authored "CultureSensitive Ministry” (Paulist Press 2010).

Pati Hope, Master of Transition, is a traveling author and founder of Evolve to Live. Her passion has become supporting others
through life’s many transitions. Included in her education, she
holds a Specialized Certificate from Loyola in Parish Life & Administration. After 30 years of marriage, 4 children and a long
career with the Church, life as she knew it began to fall apart.

Rev. David Loftus
When the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council gathered 50
years ago, they set our Church on a course for a New Millennium.
As we enter upon the Year of Faith, in this workshop we will
consider some of the most notable themes that shaped the
Church for the past half-century, why they were important, and
where they have brought us today.
A graduate of both All Hallows College in Dublin and of Boston
College, Fr. David served on the staff of the Office of Religious
Education as a consultant for Catechist Formation and Adult
Faith Formation. He currently serves as Administrator at Our
Lady of Lourdes Parish in Northridge.

an exploration of the immigrant in our culture--past, present and

Cardinal Roger Mahony, Archbishop Emeritus of Los Angeles,
was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Fresno, California. In
1975 he was named Auxiliary Bishop of Fresno, and in 1980 he
was named Bishop of Stockton, California. From 1985-2011,
Bishop Mahony served as the fourth archbishop of Los Angeles,
and was elevated to Cardinal in 1991. Today, Cardinal Mahony
continues to work for comprehensive immigration reform.

Sr. Edith Prendergast is currently the Director of Religious Education of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and directs the Annual Religious Education Congress. This event attracts over 40,000 participants annually. She holds a Doctorate in Ministry from Claremont
School of Theology, and a Master's Degree in Theology from Boston College. She is a frequent speaker nationally and locally and has
written and contributed to several articles on Spirituality and Catechesis.

Fr. Marc is a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and serves
as pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Lomita. He is a Master
Catechist and works as both catechist and former of catechists in
his parish.

Bobby Vidal

create seeker friendly events, and how to invite them. Explore the
supernatural ways Baptism has empowered you to evangelize with

Bobby Vidal is the Director of Evangelization & Lay Formation
for Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Santa Clarita.
He is a Master Catechist, a trained Spiritual Director and a Facilitator of the 19th Annotation of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. He has served in parish ministry for over 17 years.

Religious Education Session
Victor Valenzuela
Technology or media have become so much a part of our everyday
lives. It is hard to go through the day without hearing the words:
twitter, facebook, internet, web, podcast, blog, etc… Yet Religious Education has yet to catch up with the ubiquitousness of
Technology. In this workshop will discuss the 10 ways media can
enhance our Religious Education sessions, each one with a practical application that can be implemented today! In the end, we will
see that technology/ media is the real “New Evangelization.”
Victor is a National Religion Consultant for Bilingual Resources
for William H. Sadlier, Inc. He has presented workshops to numerous groups both regionally and nationally. Victor has been in
ministry for 20 years including classroom teaching, youth ministry,
teacher training, and writing and development of new materials.
He has a Bachelor of Arts from St. Joseph Seminary in Menlo
Park, CA and a Masters of Arts from the University of San Francisco. Born in Arizona to parents of Mexican descent, he is fully
bilingual and bicultural.
114 Evangelization: Awakening Youth to God’s Presence in
Their Lives
Katie Zeigler
The Church’s evangelizing mission is central to our role as youth
ministry leaders. We are called to help young people develop a
relationship with Jesus that empowers them to live as His disciples and continue the work of building God’s reign. Learn how
the foundational principles and practices of Ignatian Spirituality
can help us respond to the experiential and participative nature of
this generation of youth and draw them into a transformative
relationship with Christ.
Katie Zeigler serves the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as Consultant
for Youth Ministry and Confirmation in the Office of Religious
Education. For over 15 years, she has served as Youth Ministry/
Confirmation coordinator, volunteer team member, and retreat
facilitator in several parishes throughout the Los Angeles area.
Katie is pursuing an M.A. in Pastoral Theology at LMU and is a
member of the National Association of Catholic Youth Ministry
Leaders.

200 Sacred Sexuality & Youth
Reese Abbene-Ingino
Educators, youth ministers, teachers, and catechists who work
with adolescents will discover pragmatic activities, speaking points
and exercises to broach the subject of sexuality with youth and
teens. This session weaves Church teaching on human sexuality
with a pastoral and educational approach to engaging adolescents
in an understanding of the gift of sexuality.
Reese Abbene-Ingino earned her B.A. in Communications at the
University of Portland, a Holy Cross school in Oregon on a full
ride tuition scholarship. Following her undergraduate career, she
joined the Westmoreland Volunteer Corps and lived in a spiritual
community of other volunteers while working as a counselor and
community educator at the D.C. Rape Crisis Center. Feeling the
call to teach, she completed her Masters in Secondary Education
and earned her Credential at LMU as a member of the PLACE
Corps. She was also accepted as a doctoral candidate in LMU’s
Educational Leadership for Social Justice program. Currently, she
works as the Campus Minister at Notre Dame High School. For
the last 7 years, she has been giving workshops to youth, parents
and educators about Sacred Sexuality.
201 Mining for Gold: 50 Years of Vatican II and the Year of
Faith
Fr. Christopher Bazyouros
During the 50th anniversary of Vatican II, how do we make the
Council accessible to our people, especially the youth? Receive a
brief history of the Council and ways to present its themes.
Fr. Chris was born and grew up in the San Gabriel Valley. He
entered St. John's Seminary after receiving a Bachelor's Degree in
Chemistry. Ordained in 2003, he has served in the Archdiocese
and is currently pastor of St. Albert the Great. He also serves the
Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission.
202 Sound the Retreat!
Jason Coito
It's time for a retreat, but why, where, and for whom? Do we
measure success in water weight? Is "make 'em cry" the motto?
Theological and practical ideas about providing meaningful and
effective retreats will be presented. Come to this workshop to
share what works in your retreat ministry, and your hopes for the
future of your retreats.
Jason Coito has spent the last decade in the Archdiocese of Los
Angeles as a teacher and campus minister with high school and
college students. He currently teaches 11th grade Religion and
directs the Kairos Retreat program at Bishop Alemany High
School.
203 An Introduction to Special Needs: Major Disabilities
Overview
Giorgia Diomedes
This is a general overview of characteristics, and common behaviors of prevalent disabilities. Considerable time will be focused on
Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Giorgia Diomedes is currently working with students in 2nd and
3rd grades with Autism Spectrum Disorders. She worked for nearly four years as the Inclusion Facilitator for ABC Unified School
District supporting teachers and paraprofessionals develop appropriate and helpful strategies for working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other behavioral or physical difficulties.

Before moving to the La Mirada and Cerritos area she worked
for LAUSD for seven years as Special Day Class teacher and two
years as Special Education Bridge Coordinator at Los Angeles
High School. She began her teaching career at a Non-Public
School in Glendale teaching and behaviorally supporting students with more profound and severe disabilities for nearly two
years. She is a Behavior Intervention Case Manager and has her
Master’s degree in Special Education.
204 A Year of Faith: So What? Or What Next?
Joan Doyle
Worried about declining participation at Mass OR young adult
spirituality OR changes in family life and religious practice OR
an aging Church population OR the impact of social media on
youth OR unrest in the Church? On the 50th anniversary of the
Second Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church comes the launch this October by
Pope Benedict XVI of a "Year of Faith." What does this mean
for those of us responsible for evangelization, catechesis, or faith
formation in parishes and schools? This session will explore
trends that could impact our programs and will also invite creative responses.
Joan Doyle, catechetical consultant, workshop presenter, and
writer, has held a variety of positions in her Los Angeles parish,
St. Paul the Apostle (junior high religion teacher and assistant
principal; parish DRE). Her education includes a B.A. (English)
and M.A. (Religious Education) from Immaculate Heart College, and she holds a California teaching credential and certification as a Master Catechist and a Media Literacy educator. Joan
serves annually as a judge for the Humanitas Prize, rewarding
writers of film and TV shows that both entertain and enrich the
viewing public and has written the Study Guides for the DVD
series,"Film Clips for Catholic Youth Faith Formation" (coproduced by Paulist Productions and distributed by RCL Benziger).
205 Young Adults: The Church of NOW
Gaile Krause
We often speak of Young Adults as “the church of the future.”
But those men and women have gifts and talents that have blossomed and are waiting to be used NOW. What can we do to
invite and support the faith, enthusiasm, leadership, and talents
of those who are in their late teens and 20s? At this workshop
you will hear a few perspectives about how we can together build
a community that seeks to serve the gifts of this community with
intentionality.
Gaile Krause is a Campus Minister at Mount St. Mary's College
in Los Angeles. She graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor's degree in English and is currently pursuing
a Master's degree in Humanities at the Mount, with an emphasis
in history and theology. She worked for the Office of Religious
Education at the Archdiocese of Los Angeles before coming to
MSMC. She has also worked as a cantor and catechist at various
parishes. Gaile has been a Regional Congress workshop presenter on various topics, including planning retreats and catechetical
sessions, using the internet in catechetical ministry, and young
adults in the church. In addition to Campus Ministry, she also
teaches the MSMC first-year student course, “Introduction to
College Studies.”

206 How to Create and Implement Adult Faith Formation --- for
Parents and Sponsors
Warren G. Kunkle
The new evangelization calls us to a deeper relationship with Jesus
Christ. Unique challenges are presented to parishes with families
of high school-age youth preparing for Confirmation. Family life,
the turbulence of adolescence with practical applications for creating and implementing adult faith formation, will be the focus of
this session.

Parents in our Religious Education and Sacrament Programs

Most of us already know that the Catechism of the Catholic
Church tells us that parents are the primary catechists of their
children, but we seem to be having a hard time equipping parents
for this job. Come to this workshop to learn why we need to involve parents in our Religious Education Classes, Confirmation
and Youth Ministry programs, and strategies for doing so.
Warren G. Kunkle III is presently a sales representative for William H. Sadlier, Inc. He is a Master Catechist and volunteers in
his parish as the High School Confirmation Parent Formation
Coordinator. He has also served as a Parish Administrator, Youth
Minister/Confirmation Coordinator and a variety of other ministries over the past 25 years. With his wife, Elga, and their three
teen-age sons, a broader understanding of the realities of our
“domestic” church and its unique challenges have been recognized.
Heather works for the Office of Religious Education in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as a Consultant for Youth & Young Adult
Ministry. She works and resides in the Santa Barbara Region. She
is a Master Catechist and spent 13 years working in parishes as a
Youth Minister, Confirmation Coordinator and Director of Religious Education.

reality is that many adults and young adults are disconnected from

Douglas Leal is the Coordinator for Adult Faith Formation and
Young Adult Ministry with the Office of Religious Education, and
was formerly the Director of Ministries for St. Sebastian Church in
West LA. He is also a professional actor and director and previously worked as a management consultant. Douglas received his MA
from the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. He is
the author of the skill-building book for lectors, “Stop Reading and
Start Proclaiming!”

solar and geothermal energy. About 500 of the windmills that are
spinning in Palm Springs, California were financed and installed
by a company that Mike was President of. In 2003, he was ordained as a rabbi at Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles, where
he also received his Master of Hebrew Letters degree. He presently is Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Ner Ami in Camarillo, California.
In addition to his studies, Mike has published a book for the Paulist Press entitled "A Christian's Guide to Judaism."

Kay Harter
As Catechists dare we ask parents to participate in our classrooms? How do we invite and involve them? This workshop will
provide ideas and inspiration as well as the opportunity to share
stories of success.
A California native, Kay has been married for 27 years and is
mother to four and grandmother to one (so far!). She lives in the
Antelope Valley where her family carries on the tradition of
alfalfa farming. Currently a Master Catechist serving the San
Fernando Region Kay has experience with elementary, confirmation and adult level catechesis, has served as parish RE coordinator and is currently part of the L.A. Archdiocese Catholic Bible
Institute team. Her ‘day job’ of 33 years has been as a pilot for a
commercial airline where she currently enjoys frequent trips to
Hawaii.

Parents strongly influence the faith of their children. Using the
Strong Catholic Families: Strong Catholic Youth program as a
foundation, this workshop will look at ways to help parishes and
schools reach out to parents. We will review research, look at
successful resources, and explore avenues for involving parents in
the ministries we offer. This workshop will be a useful tool for all
catechists who work with young people, as well as parents, themselves.
Mike Norman, Associate Director for the Office of Religious
Education for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, holds a Masters
Degree in Pastoral Theology from Loyola Marymount University.
Mike works closely with over 280 parishes in the Los Angeles area
to develop strong youth programs and confirmation programs.
He has been working with youth for over 25 years. Mike served
on the Board of Directors for the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry for five years. He is originally from Nashville,
Tennessee, but is happy to call Los Angeles his home.

This is a "hands-on" workshop with activities and craft experiences.
Jan is the Consultant for Early Childhood Faith Formation and
the Program Coordinator for the Religious Education Congress
of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. A former DRE, Jan has been
involved in early childhood education since 1993. She has presented workshops throughout our diocese and at the Religious
Education Congress in Anaheim. Jan is a Master Catechist and
the mother of three wonderful children: 2 adult daughters and a
15 year old son.
Bernadette Haderlein is married and the mother of two grown
sons. She is the Early Childhood Coordinator at St. Monica’s
Church in Santa Monica. Bernadette has been a member of the
Los Angeles Archdiocese Early Childhood Advisory Board for 10
years. She has taught for twenty years in the Division of Adult
and Career Education for LAUSD and in now pursuing a vocation as an Elementary Catholic Teacher.

En este taller hablaremos a cerca de los distintos esquemas mentales que podríamos haber creado y que no nos ayudan ni espiritual

capaz, y pesimismo. Hablaremos de la auto estima y cómo nuestros
pensamientos podrían influenciar nuestro estado de ánimo y cómo

Luis Díaz es creador del programa social “Emoción Activa” el cual
ofrece una serie de talleres informativos a cerca de problemas sociales como la violencia en las pandillas, la drogadicción y la violencia
doméstica entre otros. Nacido en Puerto Rico posee un bachillerato en Comunicación de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Arecibo.
Fue coordinador del grupo de jóvenes Génesis en Puerto Rico y ha
trabajado con jóvenes con problemas relacionados a las drogas.
Actualmente es Asistente del Ministerio de Jóvenes de la Parroquia
Nuestras Señora del Santo Rosario en Sun Valley, CA y es conferencista de la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles en los distintos congresos de Educación Religiosa.

Recorreremos algunas de las mujeres más trascendentes y que también fueron pilares fundamentales para el nacimiento de las primeras comunidades.
Alberto Embry es Teólogo, con estudios de perfeccionamiento en
áreas como sectas, pastoral y estudios sistemáticos Bíblicos. Ha
sido Director del Ministerio Hispano, Editor del Periódico
“Renaciendo”, Maestro de Catequistas y Profesor de los Diáconos
Permanente en la Diócesis de Santa Rosa. También es parte del
equipo de Profesores de los Diáconos en la Diócesis de Sacramento.
Ha escrito numerosos artículos de Pastoral y Biblia. Actualmente
es Consultante de la Oficina de Educación Religiosa en la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles, donde dirige la Pastoral Juvenil Arquidiócesana coordinando las áreas pastorales y de formación para jóvenes adultos hispanos.

Ha participado en diferentes eventos a nivel Diocesano, es
miembro pastoral del Instituto Fe y Vida. Actualmente trabaja
en la Parroquia de San Patricio en North Hollywood, CA como
coordinadora del programa de Confirmación y Life Teen.

Dr. José Antonio Medina
Los participantes tendrán la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre lo
que significa el acto de fe como don y tarea, las implicaciones de
la fe en la vida cotidiana, los lugares de crecimiento en la fe, algunos testimonios de hombres y mujeres de fe, las prácticas que nos

Este taller te presentará una introducción al Espíritu Santo y su
acción santificadora en la persona. En este proceso, el Espíritu
otorga sus dones y carismas sobre las personas que se dejan amar
por El. Veremos unas reglas importantes del discernimiento, y
sobre el discernimiento de la diferencia entre dones y carismas así
como también las virtudes teologales, las virtudes cardinales y los
frutos del Espíritu. Te ayudará a tener un campo más amplio de
discernimiento y conocimiento en el campo de servicio ministerial
y pastoral.
Actualmente Ernesto Vega es el Coordinador Arquidiocesano del
Ministerio de Formación de Fe para Adultos de Habla Hispana de
la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles. Obtuvo una licenciatura doble,
una en Filosofía y la otra en Literatura Española en el Seminario
Arquidiocesano de San Juan. Ernesto escribió su tesina de licenciatura sobre la Lectura simbólica de la imagen de la Virgen de
Guadalupe. Fue maestro de una escuela preparatoria en Los Angeles y estudio pedagogía en CSULA. Ernesto también obtuvo una
Maestría en Psicoterapia Familiar y de Parejas de la Universidad de
Loyola Marymount y escribió su tesis sobre las Familias Inmigrantes Mexicanas en Psicoterapia. Ernesto tiene una pasión por las
artes, la sicología y la espiritualidad.

Vivimos en una sociedad multicultural, variada que nos ofrece
diversos patrones de comportamientos culturales y una rica experiencia de cómo la fe y la vida se viven de acuerdo a las diferentes
culturas. En este taller intentaremos recorrer caminos para llegar a
conocer más de cerca a quien es la persona adulta y conocernos
mejor a nosotras mismas, a nosotros mismos.
Lourdes es la Coordinadora de Ministerios Catequísticos Básicos y
Avanzados en Español para la Oficina de Educación Religiosa de
nuestra Arquidiócesis desde 1991. Colaboró con la Oficina para el
Culto Divino, también de nuestra Arquidiócesis, dando entrenamiento a los ministros litúrgicos desde 1986, tiene treinta años de
experiencia en la pastoral hispana. Ha sido invitada a dar conferencias en las Diócesis de San Diego, Fresno, Sacramento, San Bernardino y Oakland. Es autora de dos libros de poesía y uno de reflexiones para la compañía Ligouri, titulado “Entre Diosito y yo”.

En 1962 fue convocado e inaugurado el Concilio Vaticano II. En
este año celebramos su 50 aniversario. El Concilio centró su reflexión en el tema de La Iglesia. En aquel memorable evento los
obispos de todo el mundo unidos en comunión con el Papa Juan
XXIII se preguntaban sobre lo que la Iglesia dice de sí misma y
sobre la misión que la Iglesia tiene en el mundo. Gracias a este
maravilloso evento que fue presidido por el Espíritu Santo, la
Iglesia se renovó y entendió que necesitaba hacer cambios. En este
taller vamos a reflexionar sobre los cambios que el Concilio Vaticano II intuyó y sobre cómo se han implementado en estos cincuenta años.

En este taller veremos a la Iglesia del Vaticano II. Cuales han sido
sus logros y cuales son los retos y desafíos que aun quedan al concilio. Haremos un breve recorrido de los documentos conciliares.
Carlos Ruiz nació y Estudió Filosofía y Teología y trabajó en la
formación de Catequistas del año 1980 al 1992, y también fue
“Asesor” (Diocesano) de Pastoral Juvenil en El Salvador. Ha trabajado pastoralmente en la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles desde
1996. Es Maestro certificado de Catequistas por la Arquidiócesis
de Los Angeles desde el año 2000, también Director de Liturgia
certificado. Actualmente Director del R.I.C.A. de la Parroquia de
Maria Inmaculada en Pacoima y es miembro del “Equipo del Comité Hispano del R.I.C.A,” de la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles.

evento guadalupano y al simbolismo de la imagen plasmada en el
ayate de Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin. Ven a aprender más de la
cultura, de nuestras raíces y de la acción de la Morenita en el cerro
del Tepeyac y su impacto en el tiempo de hoy.

una historia breve del Concilio y maneras de presentar sus temas.
El Padre Christopher nació y creció en el valle de San Gabriel. El
entró al Seminario St. John después de recibir su Licenciatura en
Química. Fue ordenado en el 2003, y ha servido en la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles, actualmente es Pastor en St. Albert the Great.
También sirve en la “Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission”.

para establecer una relación saludable con cualquier persona no
sólo con una novia (o) sino con un vecino, amigo, maestro, tío etc.
Si el tema del sexo en adolescentes es uno que le incomoda tal vez
en este taller se vaya a sentir incomodo. Pero si es un padre que le
interesa el bienestar y porvenir de sus hijos este es un taller que sin
duda le vendría muy bien.

La tecnología o los medios modernos de comunicación se han convertido en una parte integral de nuestras vidas. Es difícil pasar un
día sin escuchar las palabras como; twitter, facebook, internet, web
podcast, blog etc…. Sin embargo, la catequesis, especialmente en
español, se ha quedado atrás en la cuestión de la tecnología. En este
taller veremos 10 maneras en que usted puede incorporar la tecnología en su sesión de educación religiosa. Cada una de las 10 maneras
tendrá su aplicación práctica y lista para implementar hoy. En fin,
veremos que la tecnología o medios de comunicación realmente son
“la nueva evangelización.”
Víctor es consultor bilingüe a nivel nacional de William H. Sadlier
Inc. Por más de 20 años ha estado trabajando en el ministerio hispano. Ha sido maestro de secundaria y ha colaborado en diversos
ministerios parroquiales incluyendo pastoral juvenil y educación
religiosa, donde tiene una gran experiencia preparando materiales.
Terminó sus estudios superiores en el Seminario St. Joseph en
Mountain View, California y tiene dos años de Teología cursados
