Clonmacnoise is an ancient monastic site near Shannonbridge, County Offaly. It was
founded by St Ciaran in the mid-6th century and over the years, it was a great centre
of learning. Today, visitors can see three high crosses, a cathedral, seven churches
and two round towers. They will also pass through the visitor centre, which displays
a number of cross-slabs and the 9th-century Cross of the Scriptures.

Clara Bog is one of the largest relatively intact raised bogs remaining in Ireland.
The bog is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a statutory Nature
Reserve, established in 1987. It covers approximately 460 hectares.
The Visitor Centre for Clara Bog is co-located at the library in Clara.

Charleville Castle
Bordering the town of Tullamore near the Shannon River, Charleville Castle is
situated in Ireland's most ancient primordial oak woods, once the haunting grounds
of Ireland's druids. Charleville Castle stands in an ancient Oak-forest site on lands
that were once part of an estate which began to be assembled following on from a
gift of 1,700 acres to the Moore family, made in 1577 by the Queen Elizabeth I.
Fishing
Pallas Lake
Located just eight miles south west of Tullamore, Pallas Lake is stocked with brown
trout and rainbow trout. The fishing methods are restricted to artificial fly, and there
is a six-trout bag limit and an 11 inch size limit.
A fisheries board permit is required to fish here and open season runs from 1 March
to 12 October
