Demand-Supply
Gap Analysis
Government
Initiatives
The gap between demand for and supply of labour force during the
period 2017-22 is estimated to be 10.5 lakh. This implies an increase
in for trained and skilled manpower
►
Several ministries are closely involved with skill development
initiatives and it is estimated that during 2012-17, major schemes
have the potential to train close to 19 lakh people
Need of the hour is to focus on imparting demand led skill training
with effective monitoring mechanisms at various levels of
implementation
►
►
Page 7
A higher per capita income of INR 89,000 vis-a-vis India’s average of
INR 61,000 and a slightly higher monthly per capita consumer
expenditure indicates higher savings and thus potential investments
With increase in investments in industry sectors; and growing
exports, the industrial sector is poised for considerable growth. This
translates into increase in demand for industry ready manpower
►
►
Preference for
Employment
The State is expected to experience an increasing working age
population that will provide an impetus to the demographic dividend in
the future
It is estimated that the State would witness a gross addition of more
than 32 lakh people and a net addition (excluding the number of
retirements from the existing labour force) of more than 15 lakh
people to the labour force during the period 2017-22
Entry level salaries, work environment, job location, and socio-cultural
factors, are also increasingly influencing youth preferences towards
employment
Certain
communities
have
established
preferences
for
entrepreneurship in skilled / semi-skilled businesses
