Mahatma Gandhi Labour Institute (MGLI), an autonomous institute functioning under Labor and Employment Department, Gujarat, has been designated as a Nodal Agency for Setting up MGNISDE by the Government of Gujarat to initiate activities pertaining to setting up the institute. For setting up the institute, 20 acre land has been approved near Shilaj, Ghatlodia, village, district Ahmedabad. A proposal is under process for granting the land. Objectives of MGNISDE ► Institutionalize demand driven skill development system in the country with an aim to provide a common platform for collaboration among Employers ► Training providers Workforce Jobseekers Will promote, establish, set up, monitor and facilitate institutions and academies for excellence along with policy research and policy recommendations in the field of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship ► Facilitate setting up of specialized skilling centres to conduct sector specific training programmes ► Assist in bridging skill and labor demand-supply gap ► Promote entrepreneurship with focus on the social sector to address the needs of the people at the bottom of the pyramid Page 3 Project Concept Methodology To make the training activities demand driven, good quality and employment oriented, the Institute will partner with: Training Partners Institute Strategic Partners Mobilization Partner ► Training Partners will be National and International recognized training organizations, and universities and educational institutes. The training partner will run training programmes by recruiting suitable trainers for courses within the premises provided initially by MGLI and subsequently by MGNISDE. Necessary training infrastructure will be provided by MGLI/MGNISDE ► Strategic Partners will be industries. The strategic partners will provide their expertise, technical know-how, and partner with "MGNISDE" in capacity building of trainers in latest techniques and current relevant areas of work. In addition, they will undertake research work or help in research work undertaken by MGNISDE. It will also absorb skill trainees of “MGNISDE” as per their workforce requirement ► Mobilization Partner will mobilize candidates for various skill building programmes to be conducted at MGNISDE Hub and Spoke Model For sector specific skill training, four spoke training institutes will be set up. Each institute is to be set up in PPP mode partnering with sector specific industries to impart world class advance technological training, research cum certification. This implies an increase in for trained and skilled manpower ► Several ministries are closely involved with skill development initiatives and it is estimated that during 2012-17, major schemes have the potential to train close to 19 lakh people Need of the hour is to focus on imparting demand led skill training with effective monitoring mechanisms at various levels of implementation ► ► Page 7 A higher per capita income of INR 89,000 vis-a-vis India’s average of INR 61,000 and a slightly higher monthly per capita consumer expenditure indicates higher savings and thus potential investments With increase in investments in industry sectors; and growing exports, the industrial sector is poised for considerable growth.
