The Meaning of Christmas
Gracie G. & Kylee

H.
With Christmas coming soon,
some people get caught up in
just the gifts, but what is the
real meaning of Christmas? The
meaning of Christmas is really an
annual Christian festival
celebrating Jesus Christ’s birth.
This holiday is celebrated on
December 25th. Christmas is
more about joy, family, and
giving then it is about gifts.
“Snoozy Snowflake” Review
Corwin D.
On December 6,2016 I went to an
amazing performance by the
K-2nd graders,It was called
Snoozy Snowflake. May I say they
had amazing talent, their singing
was impeccable and they had
amazing singing voices. None of
this would've happened without
Mrs.Backus, Ms.Schultz,
Mr.Maltas, Mr.Hegland, and Mrs.
Kirstudder. Thank you very much
for putting on that show.
Freezin’ for a Reason
Erik B.
Student Council spearheaded a food
drive benefiting the Ottawa
community. Students brought in cans
for the poor and needy who can not
buy canned or boxed food. Waltham
was contesting over Wallace and
Dimick. Waltham won with 2,015 lbs
of food! Mrs. Mitchell’s 4th grade
class won the Waltham contest,
bringing in 381 items of canned goods!
They got to sing Christmas songs on
the radio on December 9th, 2016.

What is Hanukkah?
Zach P.
Hanukkah is an eight-day festival
beginning on the 25th day of Kislev,
commemorating the victory in 165 BC
of the Maccabees over Antiochus
Epiphanes. The celebration of
Hanukkah is for the Jewish religion.
Hanukkah is celebrated for eight days
to mark mark the eight days the oil
candles burn. People
celebrate by lighting
candles on a menorah
each night.There are nine
candle spaces on the
menorah or also known as
a Hanukkiyah.
Waltham Cool Tool
Gracie G.
We had a assembly on the cool
tool. They talked about bus safety,
and how you need to follow the
rules on the bus in order to be
safe. One of the bus rules is to
stay in your seat. Another big rule
is no eating or drinking on the bus.
The third big rule is make sure you
sit in your seat and keep your
hands and feet to yourself. The
fourth big rule is use your
technology properly.

“The North Pole Musical” Review
Kylee H.
On December 8th, I was in the 2016
Christmas program. It was
awesome. It was called North Pole
Musical. Everyone did good. Everyone
who had speaking parts did good
because they remembered their
parts. I loved every song and the
dances were good! This wouldn’t
happen if we didn’t have Mrs.
Backus as our music teacher. Thank
you everyone who participated in the
musical.
The City Of Lights
Corwin D.
Every year the electricians put up
lights in Rotary Park in LaSalle and
every year I go to it. What I like about
it is that they keep on adding to the
City of Lights. The lights light up the
night and it is an amazing sight to
see. Thank you everyone who has
taken time off to set up the lights,
your work will always be valued.

Christmas Around the World
Elf on the Shelf
Natalie F.
Elf on the Shelf is a little elf that
helps Santa know if you are on
the nice or naughty list. Every
night the elf goes back to tell
Santa how you were that day.
Every morning when the elf
arrives back at your house, he or
she is usually doing something
silly. The rule is that if you touch
your elf then the magic will go
away and they won’t be able to
travel back to Santa. These
crazy elves are like Santa’s little
spies.
Corwin D.
Ireland-Santa is known as Santee or
Daidi Na Nollaig. In Ireland they
celebrate the Feast of Emphiny, which
is on January 6th, also known as
“Nollaig na mBean” or “Women's
Christmas.” Traditionally the woman
get the day off and the Men get to do
the cooking and housework! The
woman meet in each other’s homes to
sew and chat.
Mexico - In Mexico Santa is known
Santo Clós. In some states in Mexico,
children expect Santa Claus to come
on December 24th. In the south of
Mexico children expect presents on
January 6th at Emphiny, which is also
known as El Dia De Los Reyes. On EL Dia
De Los Reyes the presents are left by
the three kings or (Magi).
China - In China Santa’s real name is
Dun Che Lao Ren. In China, only about
one percent of people are Christians.
Most people know very few things
about Christmas. Because of this,
Christmas is only often celebrated in
major cities. In these big cities there
are Christmas trees, lights and other
decorations on the streets and in
department stores.

Why does Santa have three
gardens?
So he can “Ho Ho Ho”
