Confucius Institute at University of Kelaniya Celebrated 63 rd Anniversary of Founding of the People’s Republic of China and 2012 Mid-Autumn Festival Confucius Institute at University of Kelaniya Celebrated 63rd Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and 2012 Mid-Autumn Festival at Galle Face Hotel at 6:00 pm 28th September 2012, Friday. H. E. Chinese Ambassador Mr. Wu Jianghao, Vice- Chancellor of University of Kelaniya (UOK), Prof. Sarath Amunugama, Vice-Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University Sri Lanka, Deputy vice-chancellor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, officials of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, BCIS, National Youth Centre , Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management, Sri Lanka Martial Art association, Sri Lanka-China Friendship Associations , CRI Confucius Classroom at Lumbini College, D.S Senanayake College, Ananda College, Dharmaloka College, Bandaranaike College-Gampaha, Viharamaha Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Visaka Vidyalaya, Royal College, Staff of Confucius Institute and UOK , Mass-Media from China and Sri Lanka,, Chinese Companies etc. more than 100 people participated in the celebration. The celebration included such as distinguished guests’ speech, culture performance, eating moon cakes accompanied by introduction of Mid- Autumn Festival, Visiting photo exhibition of new China’s achievement and Chinese culture & teaching activities of Confucius Institute of UOK and dinner. First, students of Confucius Institute of UOK performed Sri Lankan traditional dance to welcome. H. E. Chinese Ambassador Mr. Wu Jianghao, Vice- Chancellor of University of Kelaniya (UOK), Prof. Sarath Amunugama, and other distinguished visitors. The celebration started by playing national anthems of China and Sri Lanka. Then, Hon. Guests and distinguished guests participated in Lighting Oil Lamp. Then, Vice- Chancellor of UOK made a welcome speech to all participants on behalf of Confucius Institute at UOK and he said Confucius Institute has played a very important role and made great achievements in Sri Lanka-China culture exchange and promoting Chinese Language teaching in Sri Lanka. Then . H. E. Chinese Ambassador Mr. Wu Jianghao introduced great achievements of New China and praised of long –time traditional friendship between Sri lanka and China as well as great progress by Confucius Institute at UOK in his speech. Chinese Ambassador Mr. Wu Jianghao wished Confucius Institute at UOK become better And then students and teachers of Confucius Institute at UOK as well as Sri Lanka Martial Art Association gave the wonderful performances such as Chinese dance, Chinese Kongfu, Chinese songs, Chinese paper-cutting and calligraphy. Finally, Chinese director of Confucius Institute at UOK Prof. Hou gave a speech of vote of thanks to all participants that evening and all people who contributed to the development of Confucius Institute at UOK and wished all of them happy Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese National Day!
