BASE UMPIRE POSITIONS
"A" Position: No Runners On Base
Stand 10-15' behind 1st base with Rt. foot on foul line.
• Look for pitchers foot on rubber, swing from batter, ball inside/outside foul line.
Long Fly, move inside 1st/2nd base line.
• Infield Hit between 3rd and 2nd, move right to be 90* from ball and 1st.
• Infield Hit between 2nd and 1st, move left/forward along inside of foul line.
 Watch touch at 1st then 2nd
 Watch for obstruction from 1st baseman
C
"B" Position: Runner On 1st Base
Stand between 1st and 2nd outside baseline.
• Look for pitchers foot on rubber, runner on base, swing from batter.
Long Fly, move inside 1st/2nd baseline.
Infield Hit, remain outside baseline.
- watch for catch & runners tag-up, 2nd base touch, 1st base touch, then 3rd base touch.
- watch for obstruction from 1st & 2nd basemen, interference from runner, and play at 2nd & 1st.
"C" Position: Runner On 2nd &/or 3rd Bases**
Stand between 2nd and 3rd outside baseline.
- look for pitchers foot on rubber, runners on base, swing from batter.
> Long Fly, move inside 2nd/3rd baseline.
> Infield Hit, remain outside baseline
- watch for catch & runners tag-up, watch ball location for play on runners.
- watch plays on bases, Plate Umpire has home-plate.
**Some plate umpires will want you in "B" position until there is a runner on 3rd. While you are in "B" position,
plate umpire will cover home plate and 3rd base play.
Remember; "Ball goes out, I go in. Ball stays in, I stay out".
