72 nd ANNIVERSARY V-E DAY TRIBUTE HONOURS WWII
VETERANS
V-E Day May 8, 1945.
Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the armed forces of Nazi Germany marking the end of the Third Reich. As the Soviet
Union was to the east of Germany, it was May 9, 1945, Moscow Time when the German military surrender became effective. Eastern European
countries like Russia and former Soviet republics commemorate Victory Day on May 9th.
The Windsor V-E day tribute, commemorating the end of WWII, is being
organized by the Russian Community Centre of Windsor and Essex County and
the Honourable Consul of the Russian Federation in Canada (Windsor) Dr.
Roman Maev. In attendance will be the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Canada, Alexander Darchiev and
the Consul General of Russia in Toronto, Kirill Mihaylov.
Presentations will be made to our WWII Veterans in recognition of their
outstanding military service and; their post-service contributions to their
communities. All veterans will be awarded Russian memorable awards to
recognize their role in defeating Nazi Germany. The public is invited to this
tribute in honour of all who served their countries and returned home; to
remember all who served and fell and were called home.
This family-centered event will take place May 6, 2017, at the Art Gallery of
Windsor on the 3rd floor– 401 Riverside Dr. West from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
The V-E Day presentation will include musical performances with a reception to
follow. Everyone is welcome to attend the AGW exhibitions free of charge after
the event.
