The tournament has raised over $45,000 and has been a constant sell-out. Entering its 7th year, the Martin Cup has grown to become a much anticipated event and hopes to carry this tradition well into the future. “On September 14th, 2006 Doug Martin, his wife Jeanne, and six daughters (Emily, Mary, Kathy, Jenny, Suzy and Amy) were vacationing in Ocean City, Md like many typical families. As Doug and his three daughters’ were walking by the water they began to realize they were being swept out to sea by a powerful riptide. His daughter’s Emily and Mary made it back to shore, Doug started swimming toward shore when he noticed Amy had gone out further in the other direction. Faced with a choice, he swam out to Amy hoping to help her back to shore, but neither of them made it back to shore. By the time the Coast Guard arrived the rescuers found Doug and Amy unconscious, it was too late, Doug had died and Amy was rushed to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md., where she died an hour later. Amy was a young girl with braces, long brown hair, gentle, kind, energetic, an accomplished pianist, and a very talented dancer. Amy was an active member of her church and passed her strong faith to anyone she encountered. As a dedicated member of the Teelin School of Irish Dance she was well on her way to becoming an accomplished dancer. The troop remembers Amy with a memorial on their website (www.teelin.com) and deeply feels the loss of her personality and talent. Doug worked for the National Security Agency and was a well respected member of the Catholic community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH), Elkridge, Md. Doug was a dedicated co-worker, friend, and eternal optimist to many his personality, humor, and dedication to his country are deeply missed. As a member of such strong communities Doug loves for his six girls and "his obvious vocation as a father was what set him apart."” The Martin Cup is quickly becoming an annual event to honor the lives of two extraordinary individuals who left their families and friends too early in life. All proceeds from this event benefit the Martin Family Education Fund, thank you for your support, donations and endless generosity. Sincerely, Friends of Doug and Amy Martin UNCLASSIFIED UNCLASSIFIED 2013 Martin Cup Memorial Golf Tournament Sponsorship 1. Sponsor a Hole at Compass Pointe Golf Club the day of the event.
