This will help your furnace work more efficiently. • Drafty windows and doors lose heat to the outside. Close drapes or install a plastic interior storm window kit to limit heat loss. • Weatherstrip exterior doors and caulk around window frames to help keep heat in. • Switch out your screens on windows and doors with storm windows. Fewer daylight hours mean more indoor lighting use – which can account for up to 20 percent of your electricity bill. When you upgrade your electric heat to an energy-efficient heat pump, you’ll stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer, plus reduce heating costs by up to 50 percent. • Sealing and insulating your ducts can increase the efficiency of your heating system. Receive a cash incentive from Energy Trust of up to $500 for both sealing and insulating your ducts. Did you know? Energy Trust’s cash incentive offers up to $0.30 per square foot for adding insulation to your home. • Earn an incentive for installing ENERGY STAR® qualified high-efficiency windows; which help reduce condensation and decrease drafts. Simple changes: • Consider changing to ENERGY STAR® qualified light bulbs. By replacing incandescent bulbs with qualified CFLs you can use up to 75 percent less energy and save money over the lifetime of each bulb. • Add dimmer switches to lights in rooms that make sense, like dining rooms. Bigger changes: • If you are looking at replacing your light® fixtures, choose fixtures that are ENERGY STAR qualified. • To take the savings another step further, consider LEDs, which use even less energy and last up to five times longer than CFLs.
