CAREER OPPORTUNITIES READ TO RIDE Cornwall Transit and the Cornwall Public Library have once again partnered to offer the Read to Ride program this summer. Children 13 and under who join the library’s Summer Reading Club will have a Cornwall Transit sticker applied to their library cards, qualifying them for free bus rides from July 1 to September 1. Registration will begin on Monday, June 20 at 4 p.m. during the Summer Reading Club launch at the Cornwall Public Library. The City is seeking applications from individuals who would like to serve the community and sit as members on the Youth Advisory Committee. ARTS IN THE PARK The 2011 Arts in the Park concert series kicks off on June 21 at the Lion’s Club Bandshell in Lamoureux Park. The free shows begin at 7 pm, weather permitting. CULTURAL PLAN PUBLIC MEETING A special presentation on Building the Culturescape in Cornwall and SD&G will be held on Tuesday June 28 at 4 pm in Salon B of the Cornwall Civic Complex. CONSTRUCTION ZONE SAFETY With construction season in full swing, motorists are reminded to be cautious when driving through construction zones. Slow down, follow directions and be mindful of traffic merges or detours. Remember that construction areas change often. Adapt to construction zones like you would for weather conditions such as rain or snow. RECREATION & CULTURE Benson Centre Activities Sports and Active Games Summer Day Camp Campers (ages 6 - 12) can look forward to active days filled with sports, games and fun this summer. Kinsmen Music and Theatre Summer Day Camp Two 3-week sessions of music, theatre and fun for all youth ages 7 to 12. Summer Arts and Crafts Workshops (Ages 5-13) Make-it and take-it classes for boys and girls will feature weekly theme-based crafts. Classes are held each Tuesday (9:30 am - 11:30 am) in July and August. Little Chefs (Ages 6-12) Make it and taste it classes for boys and girls featuring healthy, fun and easy recipes. The class runs every Thursday from July 7 to August 11 (6-week session). Summer Aquatic Programs Programs include Sea Otter (new), Salamander, Sunfish, Crocodile, Whale, Swim Kids 1-10, Bronze Medallion & Bronze Cross. Indoor-only programs include Bronze Star, Swim Patrol Rookie, Ranger and Star, Aqua fitness - shallow, shallow (low impact - Heartwise approved), deep and post stroke. Session 1– July 4 to July 15 Session 2 - July 18 to July 29 Session 3 - August 1 to August 12 Session 4 - August 15 to August 26 Eight-week session - July 4 to August 28 (indoor only) Outdoor Recreational Swims Daytime Recreational Swims (Free Swim) Starting July 4, all 6 pools will be open weekday afternoons for public swimming. Weekend Recreational Swims (Pay Swim) Starting June 25, all 6 pools will be open from 1:30 4:30 pm. There will be a pay swim on July 1. Evening Recreational Swims (Pay Swim) From July 4 to July 29, all 6 pools will be open from 6 8 pm. From August 1 to August 26, Mattice, St. Joseph and Reg Campbell pools will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and St. Francis, Terry Fox and Riverdale pools will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please be advised that the Aquatic Centre will be open from 2 3:25 pm only on July 1. Office hours are 1:30 - 4 pm. Program Registration Information Registration for programs is ongoing until courses are filled. Mail in or register in person at the Benson Centre or Aquatic Centre.
