Chai Lites – Winter 2016

in Seattle’s Jewish community was Josh Gortler. I first met Josh
back in the 1970’s; he was CEO of Kline Galland. Here’s an amazing guy; you
knew he was always looking to the future. Just like Caroline Kline Galland
“Kline Galland is
a family -- we are
all part of it.”
herself, Josh had a vision – one based on
the insight and reality that a lot more
people will be living a lot longer. And, as
they do, their needs will be much different
than seniors had at that time. They would not just require a nursing
home – which Kline Galland was – but independent living at The Summit,
assisted living, the things that would come next.
Now add to that the special care that has evolved recently like the rehab
I had – plus hospice, home care, palliative care and home health care – a
seamless program is in place where all our needs can be met. That is what
Kline Galland has become, that is the Kline Galland of today. All of us in the
community are going to need this kind of assistance as we age. Kline Galland
is a family – we are all part of it, without a doubt, one way or another.
Our Jewish community is only as strong as the organizations within it.
When we do something well like Kline Galland does, we need to make it
available to others. We have to share what we do best. It makes us stronger
as a community and brings us together as human beings. In doing so, Kline
Galland is fulfilling its mission to eachand every one of us – for today
and tomorrow.
OUR MISSION
A living commitment, inspired by Jewish values,
to provide exceptional senior care
by exceptional people…
every day, in every way, for every one.
•At The Summit at First Hill we are
launching our new memory care assisted
living program.
•In Community Based Services we are
expanding our footprint and services throughout King County.
In this evolving new world of senior care, our staff has skillfully navigated
the changes while maintaining the high quality of our more traditional
services. As the pace accelerates, we are ever-more-vigilant against
standing still -- the changing governmental reimbursement and consumer
preferences have caught many other organizations unprepared. These
challenges will only become greater and greater as the baby boomer
tsunami hits senior housing and health care.
Kline Galland has traversed these waters quite well; yet there is still much
to be done. We need to be more attentive in our advocacy at all levels to
protect those who cannot speak for themselves. We need to expand our
scope of services, geographically and programmatically, to ensure that we
remain the single-source senior care resource for the Jewish community of
King County. We need to better educate the community so they are more
knowledgeable about all we provide. Lastly, we need to make it even more
convenient for seniors to access our services and navigate through our
entire continuum of care ... and caring.
The next year promises to be a great one for the Kline Galland organization.
On behalf of the entire team, I would like to wish you a most happy and
healthy 2017.

An Interview with Ted Daniels
Ted Daniels has supported Kline Galland for decades. He, like many
community members, thought Kline Galland was here to serve others – but he
never imagined that he would be in the care of such capable hands himself.
That all changed not so long ago. As Ted commented more than once during

Being that this was different rehab than the knee, we decided to rehab
based on convenience rather than quality of care. Big mistake on many
accounts. I was somewhere else for two-and-a-half weeks – two-and-a-
half weeks mind you – much longer than needed. As soon as I got home,
we called Kline Galland – their therapists came right away, physical and
occupational therapy. These folks are on-staff at Kline Galland – the
continuity is a real plus, it’s great and makes a huge difference.
