HOME/SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS
We recognise that you have the first and most significant influence on your child’s learning and that your continued participation in
their education is important if they are to achieve the best possible learning outcomes. It is well known that students with
interested and involved parents do better at school. While you may be involved in your child’s learning at home, you can also
contribute by participating in the school council, joining the parent club, or getting involved in less formal school activities.
Concerns about your child’s education will probably change as your child moves through each stage of schooling. Parents of
primary school children are often concerned about how their child fits in socially and how secure and content they feel at sc hool.
You might be concerned about your child’s academic progress and how it compares to other students of the same age. To raise
a concern about your child’s education, make a time to meet with your child’s teacher or principal or give them a call. Schools are
usually in the best position to resolve the matter.
Please find below an extract of our policy outlining how Findon addresses parent concerns. You may also find the whole policy on
our website http://www.findonps.vic.edu.au/ Click on Parents then Policies.
ADDRESSING PARENT CONCERNS/COMPLAINTS
Findon Primary School recognises that parent concerns/complaints are a part of any school environment and that, as a school
promoting genuine home/school partnership, we should act on them in a proactive manner, using them to provide catalyst for
school improvement. Parents need to know that their concerns are taken seriously and that a fair process has been undertaken to
arrive at a resolution.

Before you approach the school or your child's teacher

Be informed; check the policies or guidelines, where relevant.

Step 2: Contact the teacher or team leader
There are a number of ways you can raise concerns you have about your child. Please inform the school about the issue or
concern. You are encouraged to:
a.
speak/write with your child’s teacher outlining your concerns.
b.
make an appointment to speak on the phone or in person with the class teacher.
c.
If a resolution is not reached, make an appointment to speak to the team leader.
Remember that the class teacher / team leader, together with others who may be involved, should be given a reasonable amount
of time to take the steps required to resolve or address your concerns.
Step 3: Contact the Principal or Assistant Principal
If the issue remains unresolved after you have approached your child's teacher or the team leader you can then ask to see the
Assistant Principal or Principal. To do this, you are invited to make an appointment through the school office. Please note that If
your child’s teacher is going to be present at the meeting it is more likely to occur outside of classroom hours.

LEARNING ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY PROGRAM– LEAP
Our LEAP program for Term 1 began this Monday, 19 March until Friday 23 March, with the exception of Learning Team 3 who
had their LEAP day last Tuesday, 13 March. Many engaging activities have been organised by the Specialist Team for the
students in each learning team. Prep/1 and Year 4/5 classes will be involved in rotational activities delivered by the Specialist
team, Year 2/3 are heading off to visit Puffing Billy, while the Year 6 will be involved in constructing billy-carts. During the day
when their students are at LEAP, the teachers will be planning the curriculum for Term 2 to ensure that rigorous, consistent
programs across all classes.
CURRICULUM DAY – Friday, 19 March
All staff at Findon attended an overnight conference at Ballarat last week. Our guest speaker, Maria Ruberto, an educational
psychologist, was engaged to speak on Positive Psychology. Positive Psychology is the study of positive emotion, engagement
and meaning; the study of mental health as opposed to mental illness. Positive emotion has the capacity to build cognitive
capacity – broader attention, greater working memory, enhanced verbal fluency, increased openness to information, increased
creativity. Staff explored the main contributing theories within Positive Psychology and how these can influence our work with
students, parents, colleagues and the school, as well how we can use these learnings in a classroom context. The last session of
the day, teachers looked at Learning Intentions and how to utilise these within their classroom, whilst the ES staff had a presenter
from Ronald McDonald House, Royal Children’s Hospital, who spoke on chronic children illnesses.
Just a reminder ...
SCHOOL PHOTOS
Our school photos will be taken on Friday March 23. Please ensure your child comes to school in full school uniform on that day.

SPECIAL VISITORS’ DAY – Tuesday March 20
I am looking forward to meeting the many grandparents, aunties, uncles, neighbours and other special visitors who are coming to
join in with the learning with the Prep/1 students. This special event supports the Integrated Unit on ‘Me and My Family’ for Term

YEAR 4 CAMP TO PHILLIP ISLAND - September 19 – 21
After the success of last year’s Year 4 camp, we will once again run the camp in the last week of
Term 3.
Near the end of Term 1, we will call for expressions of interest and
request a $50 deposit be paid to book a place on the camp.
In the meantime, we encourage your child to develop their
independence in terms of making their own bed, breakfast, and
possibly taking the opportunity to sleep away from home at a friend’s
place or close relative.

YEAR ONE MATHEMATICS with Linda Dimos
Our Year One students have been learning about 2 digit numbers in class. They have
been learning about how to recognise numbers, model numbers, compare numbers
and order numbers. Ten single pop sticks together make one bundle of ten. Students
used the opportunity to skip count by tens and recognise that skip counting is a more
efficient way to count large collections. Looks like great fun!

CHILD CARE REBATES SCHEME:
The government rebate scheme is a good way of
receiving big discounts on the program.
For example let’s say you’re paying $18.00 on a
permanent booking per afterschool care session. You
get the initial 50% rebate, that is worked on your entire
wages. So if you get Rebate of 50% that means you pay
$9.00 per session. Now then you can get another rebate
of 50%, that can be deducted fortnightly by Camp
Australia. That means your total cost afterschool session
based on $18.00 is Reduced further to $4:50 per
session. Camp Australia will then bill you for the $4.50.
