Staffing/Building Update
In order to accommodate our growing number of FDK students, another renovation has
begun! At this point , we will be welcoming over 90 new students in FDK Year 1. Unfortunately, even given our renovations, we will still require six portables. Over the summer,
we will receive “newer” portables as the current ones are due to be replaced. Let’s hope
everything will be done by the end of August !
As the year comes to an end, we will be saying goodbye to our Vice Principal, Mme
Charrette. She will be heading to Assumption School in Aylmer as their new Principal.
In addition, Mme Spieran (Gr. 7/8) has accepted a position as Vice Principal at St. John’s
French Immersion School. Congratulations to both of you!! Mme Byers will be on a personal leave of absence for one year. Mme Williams, our secretary, will be returning from
her parental leave in September. We thank Mme Morneau for doing a great job in her
place. We also thank Mme Lamoureux, our attendance secretary, who has obtained a full
time position at St. Thomas More for September. There are other staffing changes which
will occur some time before September. We will list all new staff members in the fall.
Stay tuned!
Many thanks to all the parents and staff who helped
out during Track and Field try-outs. We could not
have done it without you!

changing it.
This year, we will once again be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart Campaign. On
Wednesday, June 8 students are encouraged to wear red and bring in $2 to donate to the Heart
& Stroke Foundation. Classes will have a brief assembly in the morning, and have an opportunity to skip for part of the day. A fun and healthy way to support an important cause!

Helping Your Child to Develop a Growth Mindset: Student Goal Setting
Students of all ages should engage in setting and working toward learning goals too. What better place to start than setting growth mindset goals? Once student begin learning some of the
tenets of a growth mindset, they can begin setting individual growth mindset goals. Some examples of these goals include:

I will work longer at trying to figure something out. I will not give up quickly.

I will have high expectations of myself.

I will ask questions when I can’t figure something out.

I will review all of my work and modify or redo it to improve it.

I will spend time every day practising ______ skills.

I will try to approach things in a new way if I am not yet having success.

I will ask for more challenging work if the work presented does not require much effort.
In order to achieve a new goal, students should identify strategies or things they might to help
reach the goal as well as identifying timelines or checkpoints.
Be “SUN-sensible”
Sun-safe habits can decrease the risk of short-term (i.e. sunburn) and long-term (i.e. skin cancer)
health risks. These habits begin young, and one of the best ways to teach is by example!
Tips for being SUN-sensible:
Limit your time in the sun, especially between 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. or when the UV Index is 3 or greater.
If your shadow is shorter than you are, the sun’s rays are strong and sun protection is very important!
Seek shade from trees or buildings.
Wear a hat with a brim and clothing that covers as much skin as possible
Wear wrap-around sunglasses with UVA & UVB 100% protection.
Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (UVA & UVB protection with SPF 30 or higher) before school
and before playing outdoors.
Apply a lip balm with SPF 30.
Pack a re-usable water bottle and stay hydrated

The French Boys Choir
Young singers of Lambersart
On Thursday, July 14th, 2016, St. Justin’s will be hosting a very special concert to be performed by a touring
boys choir from France. La Maîtrise des Hauts de France, sometimes referred to as the French Boy's Choir or
the Young Singers of Lambersart, will sing at St. Justin’s Church, located at 855 Jalna Blvd on July 14th, at
7:30 p.m.
We are excited to celebrate with the French on the day of their National Holiday. The French actually mark
two important dates, both of which are celebrated on July 14th of each year. The first is Bastille Day, the
French National Day that commemorates the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789. The second is the Fête
de la Fédération, which celebrates the unity of the French people onward from 14 July 1790.
Maîtrise des Hauts de France was founded in 1970, and since 2010 has been led by J er ome Cupelli, who
auditions and chooses the choristers. The current batch of 30 choristers, aged 10 to 18, come from all walks of
life, and, surprisingly, some of them can't even read music, and all of them sing without sheet music during
performances. Over the years, the choir has toured extensively throughout Europe, North America through upstate New York, the "Rust Belt," Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Vermont, and into Washington, D.C. where they
sang once at the White House in 1977. In December of 2015, they travelled to Rome to sing for Pope Francis.
This will only be their fourth tour within Ontario since they were formed, and this concert stop is a scoop for
St. Justin’s and our diocese, as they’ve never performed in London during any of their previous tours in the
summers of 1985, 1986 and 2015.
ADMISSION IS FREE to this special performance. There will be a Free-Will offering collected during the intermission, to help defray their tour bus costs. For more details on this special performance, please contact one
of the following:
