Student of the Month
**Amsa Ahmed**
SOTM
New to the 6th form in September, Asma has
made a fantastic impression upon the PE
department. She is always willing to help in
lessons and gives up her free time to assist with
enrichment. Demonstrating a clear passion for
sport, she has also organised a 6th form
basketball team and orchestrates gathering
students to attend after school clubs. She is a
curious learner and is always willing to go above
and beyond to excel in PE. She is an asset to the
school and a positive energy in the classroom,
well done Asma.
ESAA X Country Cup South West Regional Final –
Report written by Jolie Hoffman, 7J
On Saturday 12th November, the CGS year 7 and 8 cross country team took part in the ESAA
Cross Country Regional Finals. In our race there were 71 girls from schools across the South
West of England competing, and the whole CGS team did really well! Competing in the race
were: Poppy Jane Radford (7), Jolie Hoffman (7), Thea Clarke (8) and Una Jenkins (8). At the
start we were nervous but as the race progressed we all grew aware that it wasn’t as horrific
as we may have thought. We live in England so the weather was bound to be cold with a small
drizzle, meaning we all came with at least two layers on. Little did we know, the sun was
preparing itself for a major breakthrough. At the end of the race I think everyone was proud of
themselves, as well as being completely and utterly exhausted. Well done to the CGS year
seven and eight cross country team!
Year 7 take 2nd place in schools netball
tournament.
The year 7 netball team put on another
exceptional performance against local Bristol
schools this month. All students treated their
opponents with respect and managed to
finish 2nd out of 12 schools. The future is
looking very bright for the Y7 netball squad,
good work girls!
Year 11 netballers make finals
Congratulations to our exceptional year 11
netball team who made it through to the
Bristol School’s Final. They had a fantastic
final game against St Mary Redcliffe.
Unfortunately we did not take home the
trophy, but our performance was incredible
and we should be very proud of the girls.
Swimming - Bristol School Finals
Year 9 Basketball – Undefeated!
On Thursday 24th November, a
small group of students
represented the school in the
Bristol swimming finals
competition. It was an extremely
tough competition, which
displayed great up and coming
talents. Our girls competed with
extreme resilience. Megan Smith,
Y11, managed to gain a 2nd in the
senior girls 50m breaststroke race.
Hazel, Izzy Maya and Grace came
away with a fantastic 3rd place in
the medley relay.
Year 9 basketballers have had an impressive start to their season
winning 3/3 games. They achieved convincing wins against Oasis
Brightstowe, City Academy and Fairfield School. All of the girls
have shown great responsibility by attending training each week
and work together brilliantly as a team. They are fantastic sporting
role models for the school. Brilliant work girls, keep it up!!
