Ludlow Deanery must surely be one of the most splendid in the Diocese of Hereford if not in the Church of England as a whole, not only, because of the beauty of the area but also because of our 42 places of worship. Many of our churches are of great historical significance; many have been places of prayer and worship for centuries; many are set in lovely surroundings and ALL are deeply valued by our congrega+ons and parishioners. The last 20 years has been a +me of great change: all of our parishes now form part of a group or a team; there have been changes in clergy; changes in liturgy; changes in services and not least changes in our wider culture that have resulted in decline in church a;endance. But some things don't change and never will: the things we value and priori+se such as the place of our churches in our communi+es, the respect and tolerance that the Church of England is both praised and mocked for; the respect we have for each other and one anothers' communi+es and above all of this there is the love of God for each one of us, that remains steadfast, true and everlas+ng. Some of our Deanery parishes and par+cularly those in the Ludlow area, have experienced difficult +mes of late with more change on the horizon but now that the future looks clear and bright, it is +me for the whole Deanery to celebrate our sense of iden+ty and unity. There are many ways we can do this and this leaflet illustrates how. Firstly from Advent Sunday (2016) un+l the Feast of Christ the King next year (2017) there will be 7 Deanery-wide services. Most of these services will take place on a Sunday and apart from the early morning services that usually take place, the ones listed in this leaflet will be the ONLY services that take place on their designated days. We strongly encourage all of you to a;end these Deanery services and to support each other in this way. Secondly we also encourage you to visit each other's churches. Many of us enjoy doing this and most of our Deanery churches are open during the day so do please, go and find out about the life of our churches in parishes other than your own. This is also an opportunity of course, for parishioners to make the very most of an increase in visitor numbers to your own churches and so it's a good +me to have plenty of literature available telling visitors about the history of your church and the life of your parish. You may also decide, to have items for sale or, to provide a special place and opportunity to pray with perhaps candles to light or, you may like to provide a hospitality table with refreshments or, you may decide to do all of these things and more! Thirdly, there will be a 'passport' available in all our churches in which s+ckers can be placed that are collected from each church you visit. No prizes for a full passport but we certainly want to hear from all of you who manage to collect all 42 s+ckers! Above all we hope that you will make the very most of this Year of Unity, that you will enjoy visi+ng each other's churches and suppor+ng one another.
