Reinforcement kit for CTF farm tractors
Our reinforcement kit is designed for farmers who wish to implement controlled traffic farming (CTF) on their farm
but who do not want to support the additional investment in a large tractor with a much greater power output
than required to carry out certain tasks. This reinforcement kit can be installed on mid-sized tractors allowing for
greater wheel spacing (3m/10'), using the right size tractor at the right wheel spacing.

Naked rear train
Rear train with reinforcement (prototype version)
The reinforcement kit features the following:
-
½” high quality 50W steel
Accurate laser cutting
Solid 14 tons flange bearing
Optional pin holder, chain hook
Reduce equipment investment $$
- Plenty of space for tool box, rock box, tanks, etc.
- Cab suspension compatible
- Designed and tested to sustain full traction and lift capacity of the
tractor: on this JD6140R: 4000kg (8800lbs) on 3 point hitch

At 10', stress on rear shaft can reach 1100MPa/160kpsi,
beyond metal capacity.
St-Césaire, Québec, CANADA
With the reinforcement kit, stress on the rear shaft
reaches 450MPa/65kpsi, within specifications of this
tractor.
Let’s compute the forces on the rear train:
Our JD6140R tractor weight 7300kg (16000lbs.) Resulting force on the
rear wheel is computed in the following:
Empty: 2200kg(4850lbs)
Full: 5085kg(11200lbs)
12”
When lifting 4000kg on 3 point hitch:
12”
Empty: 2200kg(4850lbs)
Full: 5085kg(11200lbs)
The rear bearing with part number JD10127 on this 6140R is rated with
a capacity of 5200kg (11400lbs). At 5' wheel spacing, tractor
specification matches bearing capacity.
5' wheel spacing
Empty: 7700kg(17 000lbs)
Full: 17800kg (39100lbs)
Now, forces on rear bearings are 3.5 times greater at 10' than at 5'. So
even with the tractor still at 10', the safe bearing capacity is already
exceeded by 50%: 5200kg < 7700kg (11400lbs < 17000lbs)
Considering traction, breaks, draw bar forces, bumps, unexperienced
operators, 10' wheel spacing is a great risk on a tractor asset without
reinforcement.
Tip list:
We strongly suggest using tractors with front
suspension in order to reduce stress and impacts
on bearing, kingpin and rod-end.
John Deere guarantees its larger tractors at 3m(10’),
but limits speed at 40km/h(25mph). This should be
the same with mid-sized tractors.

Companies like Unverferth in US or C&C in Australia provide extenders but they do not guarantee front trains. John
Deere only guarantees tractors above 230hp with specific configurations. Operators must drive accordingly and
gently.
We like to have this tractor narrowed for the winter season. To do so, we remove the front extenders and flip the
rear wheels, which takes 2 people roughly 2 hours. We flip the rear wheels one at the time which reverses tire
thread; this saves us time and risk of having both rear tires removed at the same time.
As shown on the picture below, it is possible to reach 3m (10') with standard cast iron wheels from John Deere by
bolting the rim outside of the wheel center. This means that the rim is only held to the wheel center by the bolts;
the rim is no longer seated in the wheel center groove. Few tractors in our area are setup in this fashion without
issue; we periodically check bolt tension to avoid any problems.
Design ready for the following tractor models:
-
John Deere 6140R/M, 6150R/M,
Other models will be evaluated on request:
-
John Deere 100 to 200hp: (design can be
carried out)
MF/Challenger/Fendt, Case/NH, McCormick,
Deutz, Kubota: (To be determined)
Send us pictures of the rear train of your tractor.
