Trust working account $5,770.40
Term Deposit $12,536.60
Term Deposit $34,493.93
Income – March and April:
In comparison to this time last year, the following variances were noted:
 Income down from last year – memberships $1,000 and Centre hire $435
 Income up from last year – Calendar sales $800, general fundraising $1,000 and training
income $580
 Expenses down compared to last year – fundraising expenses $325, animal expenses $590,
office supplies/stationery $1,000, training expenses $2,000, misc expenses $790

Spending up compared to last year – food subsidy $500, postage $195.
Income:
Remaining major fundraisers to the end of this financial year are:
Bunnings Sausage Sizzle – 10th July
High Tea – 17th September
Although food subsidy claims are higher compared to last year, it is believed that our fundraising
will continue to allow food subsidy to remain at 50% for the rest of this year.
Expenditure:
Much of last year’s training and stationery expenses are now being provided to the group for free.
We also now charge for most training sessions, and this is valuable income contributing towards
centre costs – utilities, maintenance etc and makes up for a reduced Centre hire income.
Moved - Clare Baldwin
Seconded – Katie Ormonde

Statisticians Report:
Problems with the data being given, not enough information is being provided from some
members.
Also asking numbers of macropod road kill that members attend to be given to Gaye to include in
the stats. There are problems with getting stats from members who are long term carers (birds,
possums, etc.) with individual permits. It is not mandatory for members with individual permits to
give stats to the group, however they still need to give their stats to the Dept.
Jo and Gaye are starting to collect stats on wildlife killed by dogs and cats
Any check of a hit animal should be kept as a record, as this provides evidence of areas requiring
assessment for the better protection of animals.
Other Business:
1. Mel Hardy resignation as bird co-ordinator. Barry Williamson – nominated as co-ordinator
(May Williamson nominated Barry for the role; Clare seconded his nomination. The
Committee voted and all agreed).
2. Parliamentary submission - Vegetation Management (Reinstatement) and Other Legislation
Amendment Bill 2016.
 Clare and Margaret sat with the Committee - Not sure of the outcome on
our submission, the committee see that the legislation has been lacking.
The amendment pushed through government, the Act needs rewriting
altogether as a ‘one size fits all’ approach is not adequate.
3. Proposed new format for monthly General meetings – Janine
 See attached – suggestion to move to Sunday lunch time
 Suggestion to change the format of our meeting to open it to all members,
but only committee can vote.
 Hoping to remove the feeling of us and them mentality, by opening the
meeting to all this will also allow members to bring things to the meetings
 Sausage sizzles needs to be ready by the time the executive meeting is done
 Trial run for the next meeting – Sunday the 26th June – Possum Month
 Need to send out info members of the change & put it in the newsletter.
 Barry motioned this be put as a trial, Committee voted – all agreed.
4. Radio segment with Karina on Zinc 100.7 called 'Wildlife Wednesdays’ – Trish (just before
the 7:30am news)
 Merged into all animals, rather than just snakes.
 Previous topics – turtles on roads, birds falling out of trees, need for
newspaper, cats & dogs campaign, phone states
 Ideas for stories needed
 Get to Trish by Tuesday nights, text or email – for Wednesday Mornings
 Clare suggested sending out a reminder for the group on a Monday or
Tuesday mornings
5. Group insurance quotes – still wading through
6. Potential new wildlife reserves. Barry mentioned potential new release near Serpentine
Lagoon for smaller animals (not macropods).
7. Jenny spoke to JCU about recent issues raised by co-ordinators and carers (carers being
charged for consults); and issues raised by JCU (carers not picking up animals within
reasonable times (birds) and carers being rude).
 Jenny said the talk was productive, including the understanding that the
visiting vets don’t know the rules, but the medications and pathology still
needs to be paid for.
 They also talked about carers making a donation to the wildlife fund at the
Vet – JCU to have a donation tin. A decision that a feedback form needs to
be filled out with each animal, to determine if people who are not our
members using the services. This form will also be used to note which
carers are being rude. These forms will have the carer’s name and
membership number.
 If a carer wants to see a specific vet at a specific time – a consult fee will be
charged. Still a long way to go, but a good start to iron out these issues.
Dr Libby Moodie is leaving Townsville on Monday the 13th June. Members need to work on
relationships with individual vets now Libby is leaving. Lunch has been organised for the Thursday
before with all welcome to attend.
8. Snake catchers and handlers – issues in the community. Snake catchers are taking animals
to Chris or keeping themselves – not taking them to Trish. Can we notify Townsville Snake
catchers to still bring them through Trish as a professional, then she distribute the animals
out to the carers. Trish now runs the ‘Townsville Snake Handler’ facebook page.
9. Trish’s work had their 40th birthday celebration, sausage sizzle funds raised given to NQWC
$125.00 + $12.40 from the cash tin.
Meeting Closed at 7:15pm
Next Meeting Sunday 26th June 2016
General Meeting:
RSPCA’s Frank Bebernitz talking about relationship with NQ Wildlife Care and limitations with
regard to dealing with members of the public who take in wildlife without proper authorisation.
