Specifications
3.1
Function
The sensing probe circuits are intrinsically safe.
The evaluation unit has a selectable jumper link on the printed circuit
board (only accessible with the front cover removed) which provides
selection for the number of sensing probes. It has two positions:
•
1 = WGA-ES4 capacitance probe only
•
2 = WGA-ES4 capacitance probe and WGA-R6 PTC thermistor
probe
On start-up the control evaluation unit automatically checks to determine if one or two sensors are connected. With the jumper link in
position 1 the evaluation unit will not give a sensor failure alarm
when the WGA-R6 PTC thermistor probe is omitted.

Mounting and commissioning
Evaluation unit


All regulations and instructions for the installation and maintenance of EX certified equipment must be observed (EN 6007914, EN 60079-17 CENELEC).
Use 4 screws to mount the evaluation unit directly on a wall.
Probes
 Fix the ES4 capacitance probe at a height 150 mm below the
constant water level in the separator.
The WGA-ES4 capacitance probe must be immersed in water to
prevent an alarm being initiated.
The WGA-R6 PTC thermistor probe must be immersed in air to prevent an alarm being initiated.

Make sure that the connections are made correctly in accordance with fig. 6, page 9.
Incorrect polarity of the sensor cables will result in an alarm on
the evaluation unit.
Make sure that the correct cable type and size has been used.
Make sure the jumper is in the correct position, refer to fig. 7,
page 10.
Make sure that the probes have been mounted at the correct
hight.
Make sure that the cable glands are properly tightened.
Correctly connect the ribbon cable to the pin connector on the
circuit board.
Close the lid.
Start the evaluation unit.
WGA 01
Operation
 While starting the evaluation unit will perform a diagnostic check
of the sensor inputs. In the event of an incorrect connection or
sensor fault an alarm will be given within 30 seconds.
6.3
Test
The evaluation unit has a built-in test function which is used to test
the alarm functions, the relay outputs and the LED indicators.
 Press and hold the "Test" button for approximately 3 seconds.
The test function starts and will go on as follows:
 For 5 seconds a layer level alarm is given.
The red LED for layer level alarm is illuminated and relay R1 is
de-energised.
 For 5 seconds an overflow alarm is given.
The red LED will be illuminated and relay R2 is de-energised.
 For 5 seconds no alarms is given and relays R1 and R2 are energised.

7
The evaluation unit will revert to the normal operating condition.
Operation
WGA 01 will only give a layer level alarm if there is a definite oil or
grease surface layer on the water in the separator chamber. Please
be aware that certain solvents and chemicals can destroy or degrade
the oil or surface layer which could make it impossible for the unit to
provide a proper layer level alarm.
Normal operation – no alarm
No senor alarms given.

Maintenance
Probe failure alarm – layer level
•
With a short circuit on the layer level alarm sensor input the red
LED "layer level alarm" flashes quick (at a rate of 1 Hz), with an
open circuit the red LED flashes slow (at a rate of 1/3 Hz).
•
The internal buzzer sounds.
•
R1 is de-energized.
Probe failure alarm – overflow
•
With a short circuit on the overflow alarm sensor input the red
LED "overflow alarm" flashes quick (at a rate of 1 Hz), with an
open circuit the red LED flashes slow (at a rate of 1/3 Hz).
•
The internal buzzer sounds.
•
R2 is de-energized.
Acknowledge alarms
 Press the reset button.
 The internal buzzer mutes.
The buzzer will sound again after approximately 20 hours if the alarm
condition has not been corrected.
8
Maintenance
Repair and modification is not permitted on site.
 Send the unit to the manufacturer or supplier for attention.
