Dear Counselors/Participants:
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Nu Gamma Omega Chapter, takes pleasure in honoring
outstanding young ladies in the greater Baton Rouge area for their outstanding academic achievements.
Up to five $500 cash scholarships will be awarded to area high school female graduating seniors. The
scholarship awards are based on the completion of a written essay with scoring of 80% and above, and
academic excellence.
The following eligibility requirements must be met:
1)
High moral standards, leadership ability, self-confidence and interest in pursuing a college
education;
2)
Overall grade point average of 2.5 and above (applicant must submit a seven semester high
school transcript, which may be presented at the essay contest if not available for
submission with the application);
3)
Two letters of recommendations submitted by persons who can verify requirement #1; and
4)
Participation in the essay contest.
Please forward the enclosed application to any young lady who possesses the above qualifications.
The letters of recommendations, applications and transcripts are due on or before March 19, 2016. The
essay contest will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10:00AM at 1747 Main Street (Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority building).
Participants are encouraged to bring a dictionary and/or thesaurus. Electronic devices will not be an
