David McMahon Tribute InTouch

David McMahon Tribute
David McMahon was appointed to Scoil Chríost Rí in 2004 and he was a most excellent teacher. He went on
secondment in 2011 to the PDST. He was due back to us this year but secured a derogation for a further 2
years. He had many great friends on the staff here who are devastated by his loss. This poem in memory of
David was written by his great friend and colleague on our staff Jó Mag Fhearadhaigh.
Just Close Your Eyes
Sometimes it’s hard to understand
Not knowing what to say or do
And as we walk along the shorelines
Asking Daithi – where are you?
So you might just spare a moment
As us teachers often do
To help you find the answer
That might be right in front of you.
You’ll find him in his Eimear’s heart
Enveloped in her love
You’ll find him with his mam and dad
In the home house up above
You’ll find him in his sisters’ eyes
And in their love so true
And the gentlemen that hold their hands
Well, he will be watching you
You’ll find him with his gran
Enjoying a cup of tea
If you ask him, you will find him
Just close your eyes and see.
You’ll find him in the eyes of friends
Today welled up with tears
As they remember all the stories
They shared o’er many many years
You’ll find him in this community
So loving and so tight
And he’ll be wherever Lissycasey play
‘Coz he loved the maroon and white
You’ll find him with relations
With neighbours and with friends
You’ll even find him if you look about
At the latest fashion trends.
You’ll find him in the school yard
As the kids run about and play
For his vocation, was in teaching
And helping others, day by day
You’ll find him with his colleagues
And his work with the P.D.S.T.
And the many many memories
In the Staffroom at Scoil Chríost Rí
So to all you Primary Teachers
Whenever you pick up a book
If you need him, you will find him
Just close your eyes and look.
A special thanks to Eimear
Their love it knows no bounds
‘Coz from when they started dating
He was the happiest guy around
Our thanks too to his family
Who made him feel ten feet tall
And for all the memories that they shared
He was so proud of you all
But the biggest thanks is for David
Who was so gentle loyal and true
And we are all better people
For simply knowing you.
He is buried beside Brian Casey
A cherished friend he held so dear
But he’ll live on in the hearts and minds
Of all those gathered here
There can be no doubt about it
We’ll not see his like again
Beannacht Dé ort Mr. McMahon
And may you Rest in Peace Amen.
Gearóid Roughan and his friends and colleagues in Scoil Chríost Rí, Ennis, Co. Clare.
