PYTHONS OUTSCORED IN SLUGFEST
In the first festival of the year, the Pentecost Pythons men’s softball team lost a Slugfest Sunday night at Humble Park, in
addition to losing a player for the season. While the Pythons slugged out 18 runs, the snakes ended up on the wrong
end of a 31 – 18 score, losing to In-Sink-Erator. In addition, the curse of Humble Park once again turned out to be the
Achilles heel for the Pythons – literally – as the Pythons lost outfielder Paul Maller for the season to a torn Achilles
tendon as he rounded first base in the final inning, turning a certain home run into a double as Maller limped into
second base. Maller is the third Python player to suffer a baserunning injury at Humble Park in the past few years. Ian
Hamilton was injured at Humble just a few years ago sliding into a base and Dave Van Ruden was lost for the season last
year in a similar baserunning incident.
Six Python batters reached base safely four times Sunday night, including Paul Maller, Kyle Jacob, Jeff Hansen, Dan
Schutz, Mike Mueller and Tom Hasko. Maller doubled twice and drew a pair of walks as he drove in two runs, Jacob
drove in three runs with four singles, Hansen drove in three runs with three singles and a triple, Schutz singled twice,
tripled and walked to drive in three runs, Mueller singled and walked twice each to drive in a pair of runs, and Hasko
singled and walked three times to drive in a run.
In addition, Ian McGregor singled twice, Luke Jacob drove in a run with a single and a walk, Dave Van Ruden singled,
Robert Barclay drove in a pair of runs with a walk and a ground ball, Tim Hasko drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Rob
Cooper drew a base on balls.
The Pythons have a bye during the Memorial Day weekend, and then return to action on Sunday, May 31st, with a 6:50
PM game at Lincoln Park.
