Celebrating the 15th anniversary of KINOTEKA Polish Film Festival, the Polish

evening featuring much loved indie rock group British Sea Power playing a newly
commissioned live score to the screenings of some of the best animations originated
from Poland.
British Sea Power will take audiences on a personal journey through their most admired
Polish animations, including Rybczyński’s Tango, Szczechura’s Journey, Schabenbeck’s
Stairs, Dumała’s Little Black Riding Hood, Oraczewska’s Banquet and Borowczyk’s
School and some short classics by the pioneer and virtuoso of puppet films, the symbolic
father of Polish animation school, Władysław Starewicz.
The band’s other soundtrack work includes recordings of the scores to award-winning
documentary films Man of Aran and Happiness.
The Barbican event coincides with the launch of British Sea Power’s long-awaited new
album, Let The Dancers Inherit The Party which will be out on 31 March 2017 and

Manana//Cuba: A Night of Afro-Cuban Collaborations
Featuring DJ Tennis, Plaid, Ariwo, Soundspecies, Aché Meyi and Obbatuké
+ Racubah DJs and Alayo
Friday 26 May 2017 / Barbican Hall / 19:30
Tickets £17.50 – 22.50 plus booking fee
One year on from the ground-breaking MANANA Festival in Santiago de Cuba, four of
the most inspiring collaborations come to the UK for the first time. Afro-Cuban folkloric
masters, Aché Meyi and Obbatuké, showcase their original performances with Plaid
and Soundspecies, while crafting a world premiere collaboration alongside DJ
Tennis, and trumpet virtuoso, Yelfris Valdes at the Barbican this May. They are joined
by London based Cuban/Iranian breakthrough act, Ariwo, who focus on the rich
intersection between electronic and Afro-Cuban music. Support comes from MC, poet
and Manana co-founder Alayo + the roots flavours of Racubah Sound System.
Manana//Cuba is a pioneering festival and record label that connects the electronic
music community to masters of Afro-Cuban folkloric tradition. The project is built around
the belief that Cuba’s powerful blend of rhythm and culture will enrich the electronic
music community, while giving local musicians a platform to connect with international
audiences, incorporate technology and take their musical development in new directions.
The Barbican performance also coincides with the launch of Manana Records, featuring
debut albums from Obbatuké, Soundspecies + Aché Meyi and Ariwo.
