Syria Product Conformity Assessment and Verification of Price and Origin Syrian Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology (SASMO) The Objectives The primary objectives of the Product Conformity Assessment program are (i) to prevent the importation of substandard products that can be hazardous to Syrian public health, safety and the environment, (ii) to detect used items and damaged equipment which are not fit to use; and (iii) to detect illegal and dangerous goods. © 2010 SGS Société Générale de Surveillance SA – All rights reserved The Program The Syrian Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology (SASMO) is mandated to implement a program combining Product Conformity Assessment and the Verification of Price and Origin, based on the Letters of the Council of Prime Ministers No. 954/1 dated 4/2/2009 and No. 4113/1 dated 21/05/2009. Under this program SASMO requires that imported products submitted to compulsory standard specifications be inspected to ensure they conform to the relevant Syrian Standards (SS) or to the approved international standards in the country of export. These goods should also undergo an independent price and origin verification. All imports of regulated products must be accompanied by proof of compliance, namely a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) and a Validation Opinion Report (VOR) for Product Conformity Assessment and for the Verification of Price and Origin respectively, issued by authorized Agents. During the certification process, if products are found not to conform to the requirements of relevant standards under the Product Conformity Assessment Program, a Non Conformity Report (NCR) Is issued to the exporter. WWW.SGS.COM The Verification of Price and Origin program aims at assisting Customs in price and origin validation as well as in the detection of incorrect value and origin declarations, giving independent opinions on the value of goods; making sure the declared transaction values correspond to the price actually paid or payable; and confirming the accuracy and reliability of the country of origin.
