PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION (PCN) PCN Number: 01/2015 - Update Release date: January 12th 2016 Title: Changes on all color OnSemiconductor CCD sensors Contact: Basler Support Type of Change: Miscellaneous Firmware Product design Process PC Software Reason for Change ON Semiconductor is making a change to all color Full Frame CCD, color Interline Transfer CCD, and color Linear CCD Image Sensors. New Color Filter Array (CFA) materials are being adopted for these devices, based on notification by OnSemi supplier that they are cancelling support for the materials currently used in these products (Gen 1 CFA material). Transitioning to the new CFA materials (Gen 2 CFA material) will help ensure continued CCD image sensor availability from ON Semiconductor. While there will be no difference to product fit as a result of this change, differences in function will result. Use of the new CFA materials will result in minor changes to the spectral characteristics of these devices. Figure 1 shows typical QE curves associated with Gen 1 and Gen 2 CFA materials for TRUESENSE 5.5-micron Interline Transfer CCD devices of 4 megapixels and less. Figure 1: comparison of typical version 1 and version 2 QE curves ©Basler AG 1 PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION (PCN) Influence on Basler cameras: KAI and KLI sensors are used in Basler pilot, aviator, L300 and runner color cameras. Our tests showed that there are only small changes between the current and upcoming sensors. These changes can be balanced by using the White Balancing feature. Therefore Basler decided to switch to the new sensor models for standard cameras. The following cameras will be affected from the change. Please see also our plan to change the cameras (preliminary): ©Basler AG 2 PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION (PCN) Affected models and expected first production / shipping date Series Model Part Number Production /shipping Date KAI01050 Camera avA1000-120kc - Kai01050 104683 done KAI01050 Camera avA1000-100gc - Kai01050 105572 KAI02050 Camera avA1600-65kc - KAI02050 104851 done Q1 2016 KAI02050 105574 Q1 2016 105579 Q1 2016 KAI02150 Camera avA1600-50gc - KAI02050 Camera avA1600-65kc without IR-CutKAI2050 Camera avA1900-60kc - KAI02150 104853 Q1 2016 KAI02150 Camera avA1900-50gc - KAI02150 105576 Q1 2016 KAI02150 Camera avA1900-60kcELS 105811 Q1 2016 KAI0340 103873 Q2 2016 104460 Q2 2016 KAI0340 Camera piA640-210gc - KAI0340 Camera piA640-210gc CS-Mount KAI0340 Camera piA640-210gcDTL - KAI0340 106850 Q2 2016 KAI1020 Camera piA1000-48gc - KAI1020 103875 Q2 2016 KAI1020 104971 Q2 2016 KAI1020 Camera piA1000-60gc Camera piA1000-48gc CS-Mount KAI1020 Camera piA1000-60gc CS-Mount KAI1020 Camera piA1000-60gcDTL - KAI1020 KAI2020 KAI02050 KAI0340 KAI1020 KAI1020 105956 105957 Q2 2016 Q2 2016 106113 Q2 2016 Camera piA1600-35gc - KAI2020 104002 Q1 2017 KAI2020 Camera piA1600-35gc-90° - KAI2020 105191 Q1 2017 KAI2020 Camera piA1600-35gcDTL - KAI2020 106713 KAI2093 Camera piA1900-32gc - KAI2093 104006 KAI4050 Camera avA2300-30kc - Kai04050 105212 Q1 2017 Camera discontinued Q1 2017 KAI4050 KLI2113 Camera avA2300-25gc - Kai04050 105578 Camera L301kc, F-Mount 101395 Q1 2017 Q1 2016 KLI2113 Camera L301kc si, F-Mount 101425 Q1 2016 KLI2113 Camera ruL2098-10gc, F-Mount 104070 Q1 2016 KLI2113 Camera ruL2098-SEN 104790 tbd ©Basler AG 3 PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION (PCN) Series Model Part Number Production /shipping Date KLI2113 Camera L301kc, without mount adapter 105569 Q1 2016 KLI2113 Camera L301kc-LEB no Mount 106865 tbd Change Description Effects of the changes: Our support tested the new sensors carefully at different illumination conditions. The images were taken with cameras equipped with either old and new sensor versions with the following illuminations in brigthfield reflection setup: • Day 50 (Daylight 5,000K) • Day 65 (Daylight 6,500K) • White LED 3,000K • White LED 5,000K The optical setup was with a Edmund 50mm/2.0 lens and aperture was 4.0. Distance between sensor and object around 1,500 mm. The following charts show both the images taken by cameras with the old sensor versions and by cameras with the new sensor versions. The new sensor images are always in the right upper part of the colors. ©Basler AG 4 PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION (PCN) Results: Daylight 50,000K Figure 2: Day 50 without White Balance Figure 3: Day 50 with White Balance Daylight 65,000K Figure 4: Day 65 without White Balance Figure 5: Day 65 with White Balance White LED 3,000K Figure 6: LED 3,000 without White Balance ©Basler AG Figure 7: LED 3,000 with White Balance 5 PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION (PCN) White LED 5,000K Figure 8: White LED without White Balance Figure 9: White LED with White Balance The results show a slight difference of color appearance at all illuminations. However, white balancing can reduce the difference between the appearance of current and upcoming sensors. The biggest difference is visible while using LED 3,000 illumination, the smallest with day50 and white LED. ©Basler AG 6 PRODUCT CHANGE NOTIFICATION (PCN) Additional Information Next steps: The switch to the first cameras with new sensor versions in Basler cameras was in Q3 2015, further will follow in 2016, please see the table above. Please check about the potential influences on camera applications. The cameras will be revised and will keep their current material numbers.
