College Statement and Statistics
President Regina S. Peruggi
Kingsborough Community College, offering both liberal arts and career education, is Brooklyn's comprehensive
community college. It has earned national recognition for the large number of degrees it confers, the high
percentage of graduates who continue their studies, and the innovative programs that draw thousands of
non-traditional students to its campus. Kingsborough is also a pioneer in collaborative programs. The College
has partnered with dozens of schools city-wide to create a seamless transition into college.
Founded in 1963, Kingsborough is located on a modern, 70-acre campus with a spectacular waterfront setting
in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn. As the leading point of entry to higher education for the residents of Brooklyn,
Kingsborough currently serves nearly 40,000 credit and non-credit students each year. The undergraduate,
credited student body totals approximately 15,000 (headcount).
Kingsborough offers programs in the liberal arts and sciences, business, human services, health-related careers,
information technologies, tourism and hospitality, communications, and the arts. It also maintains one of the
most extensive adult and continuing education programs in New York City. The College is a student-centered
campus and takes pride in the many support programs it offers that enhance student success. All students
receive individual, personal and academic counseling; workshops to improve basic skills; and career planning
and placement.

Status of State/City Appropriation Match - Community Colleges and Medgar Evers College
Funding for Community Colleges and Medgar Evers College must be appropriated in equal amounts by New York State and
New York City. However, because each appropriates funds independently of the other, a project's current funding received
may not be matched equally 50-50. The following projects currently have appropriations in unequal amounts from the City
and State:
Mechanical & Infrastruct. Upgrades Ph. I
Total project cost: $13.5M. Funding received: $5.5M State + $3.0M City.
Funding requested: $1.25M State + $3.75M City.
Health Technologies Education Center
Total project cost: $20.57M. Funding received: $1.5M City. Funding
requested: $10.28M State + $8.78M City.
T1 & T2 Buildings Upgrades
Total project cost: $23.19M. Funding received: $1.0M State. Funding
requested: $10.59M State + $11.59M City.
Five Year Capital Request Project Descriptions
(B) Mechanical & Infrastruct. Upgrades Ph. I
This project will replace the existing campus high-pressure steam boiler plant, which has
reached the end of its useful life, with a medium temperature hot water (MTHW) plant in order
to ensure adequate and uniform heating across the campus. These upgrades will provide a
campus-wide heating system with greater capacity, increased redundancy, and greater
energy-efficiency and prevent any possible failure.

(B) Mechanical Infrastructure Upgrade, Ph. 2
Frequent breakdowns of the air-handling units on the roof of the Arts & Science Building have
forced specialized labs and equipment in the building to be shut down. In order to avoid future
disruption of classes or taking the spaces entirely off-line, the air handlers need to be replaced
with new ones. The new system will create a new lightweight enclosure that will protect the
air-handlers and equipment from the elements and keep them securely in place.

(B) T3 - T8 Building Upgrades
This project will rehabilitate nearly 89,600 GSF of primarily academic space in six existing
temporary facilities, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, and T8, some which have now been in use nearly 40
years. The buildings have exceeded their life expectancy and are in dire need of extensive
renovations. All of these buildings must continue to be used as general classroom buildings until
they are replaced with a new academic building.
