Cricket Club 2016-2017 Year Book Under 13 Division 1 TEAM PERFORMANCE: 6 Wins, 8 Losses. The 2016/17 season for under 13 Division One saw some changes in players, coach and manager. While not being on the right side of the wins versus loss ledger the team approached each training and game with great spirit and enthusiasm. The game against Norths who were top of the table at the time and undefeated was the best all-round performance by the team. A good score was posted and bowling and fielding was the best for the season. In the end we needed a few more runs, with the opposition losing numerous wickets of their better batsman for not many runs but eventually getting over the line. The final result did not reflect the intensity and effort put in by all and was great to watch as the opposition realised they were in a tussle. While bowling and batting are the main components of the game our fielding was where the season could have been different. A few more catches taken during crucial moments in a few matches could have resulted in very different outcomes. The team has great character and with some development of individual skill and team intensity results will turn around in the future for individuals and Marist Cricket. THE PLAYERS Jacob Bauer Rory Di-Campli Darcy Fogarty William Harding Patrick Iles Ben Lillie 1 Great training attitude. Your spin bowling will improve with time in the nets and working on the variation in flight. You have the potential for big scores and with a bit of luck they will come. Your bowling was an asset for the side and will be a strength for you with more time running in. Great energy in the field and good pair of hands. Keep developing your batting as you have a good eye and can find the boundary. Your length control improved, work on moving the ball for more wickets in the future. You have a good eye with the bat and developing a solid drive will pay dividends. As season progressed your length improved and wickets came. Continue in this one area and some movement in the air or pitch for more wickets. Good commitment to the ball in the field will be capped off with improved accuracy of your throw. Batting numbers will improve with patience. Good talker in the field which helps all players. Great variation in bowling which resulted in most wickets taken. Great eye for batting but some work on defence will allow longer innings and more runs. Good anticipation in the field just need to get your hands closer to your eye level to improve your catching. Cricket Club 2016-2017 Year Book Tobit Louis Harry Lyons Jack Moloney Oliver Nguyen Alex Toohey Rufus Walsh Richard Iles Mark Bauer Solid at the crease and maintaining the other end is an important part of batting which you do well. Looking for a few more opportunities for quick runs will greatly to your innings. Keep working on the bowling in the future Good intensity in all parts of the game. You hit the pitch hard which will result in more wickets with a slight change in length. Can find the boundary with ease but would benefit from pacing yourself a little when out in the middle. Opener is your spot and it was good to see you go hard at the ball when the team needed it. You had some good innings which will be a good foundation for next year where you should expect more consistency. Wicket keeper is in your skill range just need to become more vocal and work with the captain when setting fields Great technique and the runs started to come but would benefit from being more relaxed. You have good pace and you get through the wicket well. Great pair of hands should spend more time in the slips. Great intensity in all aspects of the game. You have good knowledge of the game and should get more involved in field setting. Batting was aggressive and skilful with more runs to come in the future. Bowled consistently and pace increased at the end of the season. Your bowling is difficult to face when on a length due to your height and your pace increased in the later part of the season. Stay tall in your delivery stride and try and increase your speed through the crease. Be more aggressive during you bowling as you have the bounce to make batting difficult. Two Day: 3 Wins, 2 Losses It was a great bunch of Marist boys who came together for a successful season of the T20 and progressive two-day cricket. Players from last year welcomed a number of new players to the team, and with a new coach on board as well. Most impressive was the self-motivation the boys displayed at training and the encouragement within the team for each other on game days. In the T20 format, the boys won 3 out of 4 games, resulting in 4th place on the ladder of 15 teams. The only team we lost to, was the team we beat in the final consolation game, proving our team's performance was always improving. In summary, the bowlers minimised runs scored against us, and scalped as many wickets as the teams on the top of the ladder, proving our bowlers can perform. Our batsmen were very efficient in achieving good run totals in this limited version of the game, helping the team to win the games! The two-day progressive games, required the boys to play a different discipline of cricket. The batsmen had to play less aggressive cricket and protect their wicket to sustain their batting innings. To focus and be patient was key. Bowlers had to persevere with accurate deliveries to limit runs scored against us, and also to keep the sundries to a minimum. There was a vast improvement in the quality of bowling through the season! A result of 6th place on the ladder comprising of 14 teams was pleasing. Worth mentioning for the overall season was the fabulous fielding by Antho Egan, valuable all round talent from Jack Jeffery, comments from the opposition at how good a bowler Charlie Cooper was, half century from Joe Carroll as well as a 30 not out, Eddie Boland hitting 2 sixes, Josh Gemmel's natural fast bowling style (reminds me of Glenn McGrath), Liam Stoove always displaying top sportsmanship, hard core wicket keeping from Fin McRae, Gil McCormack showing how much he has improved from last season, and Harry Austin being a consistent and competitive player, even under the watchful eye of the coach. Will McGowan proved to be a valuable player, and sadly left us half way through the season to live overseas. Unfortunately Liam Harcombe started the season with an injury, and Tony George received a season ending injury half way through. All together this makes a competitive and strong side. With the cricket season at an end, I want to commend all our players for the effort they put into each training session and every game. Top job boys! (Although there will be catching practice throughout the off season.) As well, the parent support adds to the success and enjoyment of it all -so thank you to all!! 3 Cricket Club 2016-2017 Year Book THE PLAYERS Harry Austin Edward Boland Joe Carroll Charlie Cooper Anthony Egan Joshua Gemmel Tony George Liam Harcombe Jack Jeffery Gil McCormack 4 This was Harry’s second year of cricket and showed a vast improvement across all areas. His bowling, in particular, improved throughout the year as he claimed 9 wickets with his left arm ‘chinamans’- with his best against Norths Red of 3 for 5. Harry worked hard with his batting and has a very solid technique. Harry is an enthusiastic cricketer who encourages his mates and works hard to improve his overall game. Eddie hit a couple of towering sixes this year, his second one a ‘Chris Lynn special’ over cover to nearly hit his father who was scoring! Eddie’s stats showed he is improving in all areas- particularly his batting where he amassed over 100 runs this season. His best, was a well-crafted 22 against Marist Blue. a very gifted all-round cricketer who could be relied upon to knock around some runs when needed, or skittle the stumps when bowling. He was the teams highest run scorer with 192 and his best was a 50 n.o against Norths Red, just before Christmas. Joe is a fast, accurate bowler and took 10 wickets this season. He is also a handy fieldsman taking 4 great catches and 2 runouts throughout the year. ‘Coops’ is an enegetic and vocal cricketer who encourages his team-mates. He has an excellent ‘cricket brain’. Coops is a genuine all-rounder who scored 84 runs this season and took 9 wickets. His best effort with the bat was a 24 against Weston Creek in the last game of the year and his best bowling figures were 3/20 against Daramalan. He also contributed to 2 run-outs and took 7 catches. Antho’s highlights in 2017 were in the field. He showed he is an outstanding catcher and caught a number of classics- many diving to his right in the slips. Antho scored over 50 runs this year. His best was a well-crafted 23 against St Eddies. He is also a handy leggie- his best 2/24 against Daramalan. Josh is a right-arm fast bowler who has an excellent technique and will only get better. Josh had 6 scalps this season with his best a 2/6 against Norths Gold. Josh also contributed well with the bat and his skills improved in this area throughout the year. Unfortunately Tony was injured for the last half of the year. His strength is his bowling where he bowled his spinners with success- his best a 3/3 against Grammar. His batting showed improvement throughout the year and he was not afraid to take the bowlers on. Liam left his best innings till last- a 19 not out against Weston Creek in the last game of the year. Unfortunately Liam was struck down with injury for much of the season and the team missed his contributions he makes. Liam showed improvement throughout the year in all areas of his cricket. Jack had an outstanding year. He compiled 142 runs this season and regularly contributed- his best a 24 not out against Grammar. He also was the team’s highest wicket-taker with 10 and his best figures was 3/5. Gil improved considerably during the season- particularly with his bowling. He worked hard at training improving his technique and became a more accurate bowler. His best figures were 2/5 against Marist Blue. His batting also showed improvement and became more confident facing the faster bowlers. Gil also took 2 great catches in the outfield. Cricket Club 2016-2017 Year Book Will McGowan Fin McRae Liam Stoove David Austin Gemma McRae Batting Award: Bowling Award: Coach’s Award: 5 Will had a great season up until Christmas- where he left to live overseas. He is a very solid cricketer who showed improvement in all areas. His best innings was a patient 19 against Grammar. Although he only played half a year, he had 8 scalps with his accurate bowling- his best a 3/20 against Daramalan. Fin had an excellent year. He is a safe wicket-keeper and saved many runs from behind the stumps. Although he loved to ‘whip off the bails’, he didn’t snare a stumping. (He has had heaps of practice though!) Fin is an excellent batsman with his strength on the off-side. He compiled 115 runs this season with a 26 not out against Weston Creek his best innings. He only got dismissed on two occasions- an excellent effort. Liam is a great team player and was a pleasure to coach. He always tried to improve his game in all areas and work hard for his teammates. Liam’s strength was his bowling where he took 6 wickets this year- his best a 2/6 against Norths. His batting technique and confidence improved throughout the season. Coach Manager Joe Carroll Jack Jeffery Anthony Egan Cricket Club 2016-2017 Year Book Under 13 Division 2 Blue THE PLAYERS Noah Bouquiaux Angus Campbell Hamish Collidge Will Davis Michael Guneratne Will Hill Jeremy Firth Harvey Jack Sam McGregor Riley Monaghan 6 Noah, you have the potential to be a good leader. You are a good all-rounder and batted well when you kept your head down and bowled well when you didn’t try to bowl the ball too hard. Your catching was the special thing and the 5 wickets you took against Eddies! Angus had a fair year bowling, some good balls and some average. Angus has a good arm and fields well. He should work on his blocking with the bat; not every ball needs to go for a six! Angus is a natural sportsman and has the talent to do well in cricket. Hamish was our wicket keep and did a fine job. He batted well when he put his head down and did well when he was given a chance to bowl. Work on your glove work in the off season. Will tried hard all year and always gave his all. Will should work with the gloves over the off season and come back to do some keeping as he seemed to like it. Practice your defence with the bat and keep up the good work. You will get there. Michael has the best defensive technique in the team and he could become a good opening batsman. Michael needs to believe in his batting and stop asking to bat down the order. Work on your catching in the off season and your calling between wickets. Will is a great team player, never questioning where he was bowled or batted. He always tried hard, sometimes too hard especially with the bowling. It’s not always how fast you bowl but how well you bowl. Will is a a good all round sportsman with a strong arm from the outfield. Work on your defence with the bat. Jeremy had a good 1st year with Marist Cricket Club. Jeremy usually opened the bowling and did a fine job of it when he just bowled normally and not trying those “special” bowls. It was Jeremy’s batting that impressed and showed us that he has the potential to become a special batter. Keep working on it; keep your head down and don’t forget not everyone is as quick as you between the wickets. Harvey is an around sportsman who would do well in any sport. Believe in yourself. Harvey bowled and batted well at times and did a good job keeping in our last game. I would like to see do some more keeping next year. Sam was the most enthusiastic boy in the team. Sam would always ask questions about how he could do better at bowling, batting and fielding. It was great to see your passion for the game. Keep practicing and you will improve dramatically. It was great to have Sam in the team, keep it up. Riley had a good year with a 4 wicket hall in one match. He just missed the 5th wicket but bowled very well. Work on your batting in the off season. You could become a good number 4 batsman. Ryan always tried hard, he fielded well and has a good arm from the outfield. Cricket Club 2016-2017 Year Book Hereshan Senthooran Patrick Bouquiaux Vanessa Monaghan Hareshan became one of our best batsmen this year having the highest score of 45. Well done. Hareshan has a good technique. Work on your running between wickets and on your spin bowling. I do believe you have the ability to be a good spinner if you work on it. Ryan was our main strike bowler. He bowled well when we he pitched the ball up. Keep working on that and your run up, it could be a bit too long. Ryan has the potential to be a good leader and he understands the game well. Ryan should start thinking about how to set the field. Well done. James showed much improvement over the season. He bowled some very good balls and some not so good. Keep working on the bowling. In a game against Weston Creek he batted the whole innings and save us from losing out right. It was a great effort. James always worked hard in the field and at training. Thank you.
