Name Presented by Isosceles Trapezoid Activity Goal - Build a regular tetrahedron (triangular pyramid) such that no two touching sides are the same color. Note - the pieces may meet a vertex (point). 1. Begin with 12 regular trapezoids ( 3 each of four different colors). 2. Select three pieces of different colors. 3. Arrange the pieces to form an equilateral triangle 4. Build three more equilateral triangles in the same manner. 5. Use these triangles to build a pyramid (regular tretrehedron). 6. Check for two touching pieces of the same color - you are likely to find this to be the case. 7. Systematically move pieces until the problem is solved. HAVE FUN! You have created a three dimensional representation of the “Four Color Map Problem” ! Do a computer search for this problem and learn even more! Activity ART5 12132012asm Page 1 of 1
