KING’S HOUSE SCHOOL
Dear Parents
The end of the first full week is now approaching and King’s House really seems
to be back in the swing of things already. The new children across the school,
from our youngest Caterpillars embarking on the first stage of their education,
to our new boys higher up the school, all seem to be settling in well and
finding their way around. Thank you to everyone for making them all feel so
welcome. We have very much enjoyed seeing so many parents at the
Curriculum Evenings we have had so far – Years 2 and 3 (Tue 15), Years 7 and 8
(Thu 17) and Butterflies (Wed 23) finish off the cycle in the next two weeks.
With the Rugby World Cup starting next week, our Year 8 boys had a treat on
Thursday morning when they went off to The Stoop to see the Rugby World
Cup itself, with a small presentation to schools about it and the event. I am
sure they are all looking forward to the competition all the more now. Please
do note the message sent out earlier this week about the school closing early
on the afternoon of Friday 18 September.
Our football season is already well underway. We had teams playing in the
Hampton 5 a-side tournament last Saturday, with the U11As and Bs doing
particularly well, and then Year 5 and Year 6s with fixtures on Wednesday. The
U10s actually taking part in three-way round of matches with Felton Fleet and
Denmead. The boys seemed delighted to get back to matches – and match
teas!
A couple of dates to mention for the diary; the Friends Quiz on Friday 9
October and then we have our Michael Stuckey Prize Concert on Wednesday
14 October.

Popping to the shops
Dear Parents,
We have had a wonderful start to the new school year. Last year’s Caterpillars are delighted to be Butterflies and have been very busy exploring their
new classroom. Our new Caterpillars have amazed us at how quickly they have settled and started to pick up their new routines. The sound of
children’s happy voices fill the Nursery and our empty walls are now starting to look more colourful as the children’s paintings go up.
We have some lovely topics this term that are lots of fun but also facilitate so many learning opportunities. The Caterpillars are focussing on Nursery
Rhymes and songs and this week have been singing ‘The Wheels on the Bus.’ The children have been busy painting a bus for the wall display and
there is an enormous cardboard box in their classroom ripe for transforming into a big red bus! They have also had their first Smart Moves session
with Miss Couch; I was very impressed at how well they could balance on one leg.
In Butterflies the children have been painting self-portraits and telling us all about themselves. When asked what they would like to be when they
grew up Alexander replied, “Massive” and Naavya would love to be a “flying princess!” The children have had their first French, Music and PE lessons
and Madame Matthews, Mr Denyer- Green and Mr Hulme all commented on their super behaviour and listening skills. Well done Butterfly Class!
Lunch clubs have started and can I just remind you that we are a nut free school as we do have children with allergies. Nuts seem to sneak their way
into so many foods so we would be really grateful if you can do a careful check. We would also really appreciate it if lunch boxes could be clearly
named as there are often lunch boxes that are the same.
We are looking forward to seeing Butterfly Parents for the Curriculum evening on Wednesday 23rd September 6.30-7.30pm. This will be an
opportunity to find out what we cover over the year and how the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is taught. There will also be a chance to
explore the classroom and all of the resources.
Do remember we have an open door policy so please pop in for a chat if you have any queries.
Have a lovely weekend. Jane O’Brien

Notes from the Junior Department
Dear Parents
Welcome back! The boys were literally beating down the door last Thursday morning and it was lovely to see them so happy to come to school. It has been a busy week with
boys attending their first clubs and activities, as well as getting used to new routines and making new friends. May I offer a particularly warm welcome to families and members of
staff who are new to the school. I have been very impressed by the way in which our new Reception boys have settled in so quickly and I know their teachers are delighted with
them. They all stayed for lunch this week and completed their first full day, so well done to all of them for starting their King’s House journey with us. It was also fantastic to see
so many boys in the Gold Book this week, so well done to them for impressing their teachers right from the start. In assembly on Friday I spoke to the boys about keeping safe
around the school and on Monday Mrs Doliveux talked about our Golden Rules. We discussed how to behave on the playground and around school, how we cross the road
safely when walking to the Senior Department and what to do if the fire alarm sounds. We also reminded the boys that they must never try to leave the building without an adult.
If parents could reinforce this at home it would be very helpful. As I said in my letter last week, we are monitoring drop-off and pick-up procedures closely following the
installation of the new entrance and will let you know if we need to make any changes. It was good to see so many Reception and Year 1 parents at their Curriculum Talks this
week. I hope you found the evening helpful.
Uniform: Just a reminder that boys may wear summer or winter uniform until half term. Please note that ties should not be worn with the summer shirt because they do not sit
well and tend to look untidy. Ties should be worn with the winter uniform. All boys should arrive wearing a school blazer.

The U11’s attended their first football
tournament of the season at Hampton
School on Saturday. King’s House had both
an A and B team competing in this 5 a side
tournament, and they were actually
matched up against each other in the first
game. The B team equipped themselves
well, but the A’s emerged the eventual
winners in this match. The B’s then went
on to have a tremendous tournament not
losing another game, and in fact not
conceding either, which they should be
very pleased with. The A team went on
from the first game and had an impressive
tournament as well. They didn’t lose a
match and managed to score 26 goals and
only concede 3. When the results were
announced the U11 A team came in a
close 2nd, missing out on the top spot by 2 points to St Stephens who also won all their games and scored
2 more goals. The boys should be very proud of how they played so early in the season and hopefully this
is the start of good things to come this season. Well done to everyone that played! Mr Andy Austin
