MaSa, the joint venture between Saur and the Saudi group, Marafiq, is signing a new
contract that will expand its operations to include water and sanitation services in
Yanbu Industrial City, located on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s west coast.
Saudi Arabia’s leading private water and electricity company, Marafiq, has recognised MaSa’s
excellent performance over the last three years in managing cooling, sanitation, and water
services in Jubail Industrial City, Marafiq, and so have selected again MaSa to operate and
maintain the wastewater facilities and the water distribution network in Yanbu.
The contract will run for six years and covers the collection and treatment of wastewater from two
water treatment plants (one domestic, one industrial), and maintenance of the wastewater and
drinking water networks in residential and industrial areas.
For MaSa, this expansion is an opportunity to create jobs and promote training for its Saudi staff in a city
known for its large refinery. Yanbu Industrial City is located on the shores of the Red Sea, 245 miles north of
Jeddah, and is the Kingdom’s second largest oil hub after Jubail Industrial City.
Dr Al-Buainain, CEO and President of Marafiq, made known his desire to expand the scope of MaSa’s
operations in light of its successful management of facilities in Jubail Industrial City over the last three years.
Indeed, Saur was chosen in 2011 for its expertise and proven track record in water and sanitation
management in France and throughout Europe. The two companies then formed a joint venture to run and
maintain water and sanitation services, a partnership that forms part of an “Operation & Maintenance Joint
Venture”.
With this new contract, Saur cements its international growth and long-term presence in the Arabian
Peninsula’s largest country. The opening of its regional representative office dedicated to development in
Saudi Arabia and other Gulf/GCC countries in Bahrain in early 2014 clearly supports this ambition.
