PRESIDENT’s MESSAGE
Hello Ladies,
It’s amazing to me how fast this year is going for us! We have only three months left
of our club year. The month of March is important because we will be having our Spring
Fling Bingo on March 14th. It's scheduled the day after our club meeting. I'm looking
forward to seeing all of you at both occasions, and I'm hoping that you'll bring a friend to our
Bingo event. If you haven't bought your ticket yet, please contact Alison Stuart or a board
member. We need your support in our efforts to make this a successful and fun event for our
club. A big “Thank You” to Alison and all who are helping her to put on a great fundraiser.
Also, in March, the Nominating Committee will be announcing the slate of officers for next
year. Come and give these ladies some recognition for stepping up to lead our club. I will still be
on the board — as first director, in support of the new officers, and I'm looking forward to that.
Since we acknowledge our members' birthdays at every meeting, I would like to say "Happy 90th
Birthday" to Jeanne Barks, whose special day is March 5th. She hasn't been able to attend
meetings due to illness, but our thoughts are with her. Jeanne, I hope your cake is chocolate!!
Happy Spring, Everyone. - Mary
Fish Fry Fridays!
March Luncheon — Friday, March 13th - Noon
March is not only about St. Patrick’s Day! Come
join co-chairs Laura Vopatek and Sophia McHugh as
we explore the March calendar and listen to a guitar
performance. Our menu will be Irish Beef Stew, salad,
bread, and an éclair dessert. If you have not already joined
the rush to RSVP, send your $12 to Ginnie Howells by
March 6th (on March 6,1521, Ferdinand Magellan discovered Guam). Come find out what else we have to celebrate
in March.
Wear your Spring colors!
Yes, I plan to attend the March luncheon

RED RED EVERYWHERE!! What a great February luncheon with favorite salads
from our members and music by Café Musique. Loretta led us
in a celebration of former WCAG presidents and we
were able to share Mary Kay Cottingham’s 100th
birthday, complete with her daughter Tricia. Members
Gretchen Weckstein, Dana Pojas, and Sally Weitkamp also came with
daughters (and Sally’s granddaughter). We also had Jeanne Barks and her daughter
join us for a short while. Joanna reminded us of the importance of achieving harmony in our relationships. Paula
Waugaman won the free lunch for the March
luncheon and Sharon Boyajian
claimed (for Mary Ann Shoebridge) the $114.50 from the
Opportunity Drawing, a new record for our club.

*I've learned* *...... That being kind is
more important than being right
*I've learned* *...... That sometimes
all a person needs is a hand to hold
and a heart to understand.
*I've learned* *...... That love, not
time, heals all wounds.*

Long-time member,
Sandy Hayes, passed away
in February. Those who
knew her remember her
lovely smile as she greeted us and
her giving spirit!
We have also noted the passing
of former members, Evelyn Lee
and Barbara Hehemeyer.
SPRING FLING BINGO
will be held on Saturday, March 14th at St. John's with the doors
opening at 12:30 PM and play beginning around 1 PM. Tickets are still available (a
$20 ticket buys you two bingo cards - additional cards can be purchased for $1 each at
the door). Just call me (473-1866) or mail a check (made out to the Woman's Club of
AG) and I will mail you as many tickets as you need. We hope all the ladies from the
club who will be attending can bring finger foods to share - anything like sandwiches,
crackers with cheese (no dip) or other toppings, deviled eggs, tarts, muffins, cookies,
brownies - any sweet or savory treat that does not require a fork and will not be too
messy (we want to keep our bingo cards in good shape!). We could also use a few more gift
cards in any amount for bingo prizes - your generosity would be much appreciated. If you have
any questions please call me at your convenience. Remember that you can buy a ticket even if
you don't play bingo or can't be there; the ticket stub enters you in all the door prize drawings and
you can still come, eat, socialize, shop for beautiful restored jewelry items and enter our fabulous
gift basket raffles. You don't need to be present to win any of the raffle drawings (for the famous
Money Hat and the gift baskets) or the door prize drawings and all proceeds from the ticket and
raffle sales will go towards annual scholarships. This is our last major fundraiser for this club year
and I look forward to a fun-filled afternoon for a great cause! Again, for more info or to donate,
please call me at 473-1866! See you there!

WCAG CLUBHOUSE & KITCHEN REMODEL UPDATE!
Our kitchen club fund is about $65,000 at last count.
In order to begin the project, it is believed that we
need approximately $80,000. In addition to continuing to sell bricks, we are looking for grant monies to
get us to our goal as well as working with local appliance stores to see if we can get appliances at a reduced cost. Stay tuned and if you know someone
who may want to purchase an engraved and personalized brick, please direct them to Mary Carson or
one of the kitchen committee members (Laura
Vopatek, Cindy Moreno).
Charlie reports that the 5 Cities Christian
Women are in need of egg cartons for
packing donated eggs for distribution
to needy families. Please contact Charlie
at 481-3503 if you have egg cartons to donate or bring them to the next meeting.
Thank you to Debbie Audet for stepping up as
co-chair with Dana Pojas for the May Tea—
where we meet our Scholarship winners and
their families.
BUY A BRICK! Do you know a friend or business who would like their
name immortalized or would just like to help the Woman’s Club of
Arroyo Grande with their kitchen remodel? Encourage them to purchase a brick for $100, $200 or $400. Not sure how? Call Mary
Carson at 473-5801 for more information. We are only a short
$10,000 from our goal of $80,000 so that we can move ahead with
this project. With the LION’S 501(c)3 status, donations are tax deductible; checks should be made out to Central Coast Foundation.
APRIL IS BOOK SALE MONTH.
Snooks Powers will be heading up the
book sale at our April 10th meeting, so begin
saving up books, DVD’s, CD’s, videos, and
games to donate. This is always a great
opportunity to get new entertainment and
reading material. Bring your donations to the
April meeting.
