June 25, 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Pat Dowling, Public Information Officer (843) 280-5612 / [email protected] / www.nmb.us The Folds of Honor Foundation presents college scholarships to the children of Staff Sergeant Andrew and Julia Montgomery North Myrtle Beach, SC – On June 25 at North Myrtle Beach City Hall, Major Ed Pulido of the Folds of Honor Foundation presented college scholarships to Anson, Asher, and Alexis Montgomery, children of Staff Sergeant Andrew and Julia Montgomery. The Folds of Honor Foundation (www.foldsofhonor.org) awards college scholarships to the children of fallen or disabled local service men and women. Staff Sergeant Andrew Montgomery was born in Elmira, New York. He joined the United States Army at the age of 17 and served in the 82nd Airborne Division. After the completion of his second deployment to Iraq where he was wounded on two different occasions when his vehicles were hit by roadside explosives, he moved to Combat Company 1-32 Infantry 3rd BCT 10th Mountain Division. He served in Afghanistan as a Squad Leader and was wounded a third time when, while on patrol, he stepped on a land mine. PGA Professional status to help other (Alexis Montgomery was not available for the photo.) wounded and disabled veterans learn the game of golf as a form of therapy. He has had to overcome many obstacles as a result of his injuries. Like so many others like him, he has found that golf helps him cope with the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Andrew was invited to join President George W. Bush at his two day, 36 hole Warrior Open in the Dallas area. Andrew and his wife recently completed the purchase of a house in Myrtle Beach where they will live with their three children. Andrew and Julia are both working on earning their bachelor degrees. They are highly motivated and are looking forward to the next phase of their lives. Three other families (shown below) whose children have also received Folds of Honor Foundation scholarships joined the Montgomery family for the event. The presentation event was organized by Bill Pearson, Tournament Director for the Tidewater Patriot Day Charity Golf Tournament (www.tidewatercharitytournament.com).
