Every February 14th, across the
United States and around the
world, flowers, chocolate and

are exchanged
between loved ones all in the
name of Saint Valentine. Here are
a few fun facts that you might not
have known about the Holiday Of
Love,
* Teachers receive the most
Valentines, followed by, kids,
mothers, wives and sweethearts.
* Over 50% of all Valentines Day
cards are purchased in the 6
days prior to the holiday.
* The oldest surviving Valentine
dates from 1415. It was a poem
written by Charles, Duke of
Orleans to his wife.
* Hallmark produced the first
Valentine in 1913.

* The Catholic Church struck St.
Valentines day from its official
calendar in 1969.
*For every 120 single men who
are in their 20's there are 100
single women in that age range.
It has become a fairly new
tradition at Carriage Inn to have a
Chocolate
Extravaganza
on
Valentines Day for residents and
guest to come enjoy a chocolate
buffet. Our buffet featured
German
Chocolate
cake,
Chocolate covered strawberries,
Chocolate mousse, cheesecake
and brownies just to name a few
tempting treats. Music was
provided by Charlie Horton.
Residents and guests filled up on
Chocolate and sang along to all
their favorite songs!

Making a Difference
A recent article in The Courier, our local
Conroe,Texas newspaper, stated that simple
activities such as surfing the web, playing
bridge and socializing can stave off mental
decline in our senior population.
Plenty of food and residents with full bellies at our Super Bowl Party!
Games, crafts and exercise may also help
safeguard an aging brain. Keeping our brains
busy seems to play a large role in keeping it
healthy for as long as possible. Just 30
minutes a day of light exercise increases the
oxygen to your organs including your brain!
Carriage Inn offers Exercise every day of the
week. You can stroll on your own or with our
walking group called "The Happy Train". The
train departs from the private dining room at
9am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also offer
Chair Tai Chi and Stretchercise, or come join
us for Sit and Be Fit. Be sure to always check
your calendar for the many fun activities daily.
Help keep your brain in tip top shape and enjoy
the benefits of a healthy social life!
Super Bowl Sunday!
The Super Bowl is the National
Football Leagues championship
game. It is held every year in a
different city in the United States.
The first Super Bowl was held on
January 15, 1967. The Green Bay
Packers defeated Kansas City.
The score was 35-10. The game
was played at the Los Angeles
Memorial Coliseum. Each Green
Bat Packer player recieved a
bonus of $15,000 that year.
Super Bowl Sunday is the
second largest day for food
consumption in the United States,
Thanksgiving Day is the first. The
Super Bowl has been the most
watched broadcast for many
years on American television.For
20 years the tv show M*A*S*H
was the most watched television

show in history until the 2010
Super Bowl broke that record.
The cost for placing a
commercial in the Super Bowl is
more expensive than any other
event. The average cost is 2.8
million dollars for 30 seconds of
air time.
Roman Numerals are used in the
Super Bowl because the football
season falls in 2 calendar years.
Every year there are 72 footballs
used for the Super Bowl game.
There are more than 700,000
footballs made for the NFL each
year.
The Lombardi Trophy is given to
the NFL team who wins the Super
Bowl. It weighs seven pounds and
is 21 inches high. It is worth

Lopez in our dining room serving meals or at
our front desk on Sundays answering calls and
directing visitors. Now she will be expanding
her work experience at Carriage Inn to
housekeeping.

had a great time at our Super
Bowl Party! Snacks and Drinks
started at 4pm. Everyone enjoyed
the pre-game show. When the
time came for the National
Anthem most residents stood and
sang loud and proud for our
country. Everyone filled their
plates with food prepared from
our kitchen. Tamales, pizza, wings
and nachos with all the fixins.
Plates were full and so were our
bellies. Soda, beer and wine were
our selection for beverages. many
residents stayed to cheer on their
favorite team!
Estella Lopez will be transferring to the housekeeping
department from the dining room.
Estella has been employed at carriage in for a
little over a year, with a brief break for a few
months. Estella was born in Eagle Pass Texas,
close to the border of Laredo. She has three
sisters and two brothers. Estella is the mother
of two boys and one girl.
On her free time Estella enjoys shopping,
working out, running, and helping others.
Carriage Inn would like to congratulate Estella
on her new adventures in housekeeping.
A fun game of Dominoes is a great way to help keep our
minds sharp.
