POSITION DESCRIPTION Port Otago Values: Valuing Staff Honest Communication Safety Teamwork Being the Best Title Mechanical Supervisor Purpose of position: This is a senior position that provides leadership and direction to the combined Mechanical Trades Team to ensure the safe maintenance of all POL Mobile and STS Crane assets and systems. Participates in induction and on-going training programmes Ensure strict adherence to safety standards, statutory and legislative requirements, & POL policies and procedures. Comply with work area PPE requirements. Follow the “My Safety Assessment” personal task hazard process Responsible for ensuring a safe workplace and adherence to good housekeeping practices. Responsible for conducting minuted two weekly Mechanical Trades Staff Toolbox Meetings as per the POL procedure Support safe behaviours through the POL random drug & alcohol process appropriately (everybody’s Human Resources Operational Performance Training plans and training records completed for Mech Team Provide leadership for Mechanical team cultural improvement Manage/review Mechanical Team/individual performance Manage Mechanical Staff timekeeping and task/work behaviours Closely supports the Maintenance Manager’s directives and conducts relevant communications to Mechanical staff in an accurate and timely manner Provides a regular feedback process to the Maintenance Manager regarding Mechanical Team and individual performance Maintains regular feedback to the Maintenance Manager on staff rostering provisions, leave, and any “HR” related issues. Maintains a close communication with operational supervision to ensure planned maintenance and repair activities are conducted on plant & equipment as per the Maintenance Planner’s schedule, and equipment is returned to operations staff when scheduled in a serviceable condition. Expectation is that equipment will operate reliably through to the next planned service. Unexpected changes to the planned maintenance schedule (ie due to unexpected job complications or new faults found) to be communicated to both the Maintenance Planner and Operations Supervision at the earliest to ensure back up provisions can be discussed and arranged and any changes to the agreed Schedule identified early. Responsible for communicating the status of outstanding faults and repaired faults to the Maintenance Planner who will provide a weekly report to Operational Supervision for communication to Operators. The philosophy is that equipment will operate with outstanding faults as long as the faults do not impinge on the safe operation of the asset and they are recorded as outstanding backlog faults in the Maximo system. These faults will be prioritised and rescheduled into planned maintenance activities for future weeks. Follow the work management process within the operation of the Maximo System with safety related faults treated as priority one. Attendance and involvement in weekly Maintenance Planning Meetings to agree to the following week’s maintenance schedule. Provides an urgent emergency breakdown repair service for critical plant & equipment, both Mobile Fleet and Cranes. Conduct a monthly safety audit inspection of workshops and stores to ensure compliance with relevant legislation. Manage Mobile & Crane assets maintenance activities to ensure work is performed safely to a quality & cost effective standard. Ensures adherence to company safety standards, policies and procedures. Ensures all maintenance staff complies with PPE equipment as required, regular safety inspections are carried out as required, and company safe working policies and procedures are adhered to. In conjunction with relevant POL Staff maintain a property map that clearly identifies all utility cut-offs, the location of hydrants, gas mains and any other property safety information. Ensures compliance with legislative safety regulations. Strategy In conjunction with the Maintenance Planner assist in developing and maintaining effective mechanical maintenance strategies within the Maximo System on all critical assets using a reliability based process Change Management Apply leadership to challenge the status quo and implement identified business improvement initiatives Support the implementation of maintenance efficiencies Lead the development of Trade team ownership in continuous improvement processes Ensures all maintenance activities are conducted to an appropriate standard and maintenance feedback on all planned, unplanned, and Process Improvement Innovation breakdown activities are provided to the Maintenance Planner Manage the Mechanical Team non system generated Work Orders incl accurate history, spares used, and resources records. Supports the monitoring and tracking of Service Requests, preventive maintenance work performed, and compliance with Hazard Communications program requirements, compliance with safety requirements, supplies and parts inventories. Keeps storage and workshop inventory areas in a neat, well-stocked, clean, and organized manner. Assists Maintenance Manager in the preparation of maintenance operating budgets as required. Provides the Tech Clerk with timely and appropriately detailed Maximo Purchase Requisitions (PR) for purchasing Inventory, consumables, and services. Manages contractors and contractor performance associated with quality of work performed, technical matters, safety, and security. Follows the Scheduled Maintenance program as set out in Maximo Manages all Mechanical Maintenance Inventory incl critical spares, recommending preferred suppliers, max/mins, etc to Maint Planner Provides security for maintenance spares, tools, and associated servicing equipment and instruments. Involvement in structured problem solving to root cause and implementation of identified cost effective & sustainable solutions using the Apollo RCA process Supports the development of continuous improvement processes within POL Keeps abreast with the latest industry developments to facilitate ongoing continuous improvement processes Seeks opportunities to improve asset performance through the utilisation of Reliability processes, technology, & best practice. Business Planning Contributes to the Maintenance Planning processes by providing Services leadership team advice on strategic asset performance and reliability Business Partnership Model In conjunction with the Plant Services leadership team have involvement in the development of a sustainable business partnership model with the POL Operational team and other key POL groups.
