Industry:
Intrusion Prevention/ Network
Integrity
Business Challenge:
Captus Networks needed a fullfeatured Element Management
System for its Captus TM IPS 4000
series intrusion prevention systems.
Captus wanted the EMS to offer full
range of FCAPS functionality,
enterprise-grade interoperability, and
carrier-grade scalability.
With a very short time-to-market
and a sharp focus on overall cost,
Captus Networks had to choose a
reliable, robust, and cost effective
network management platform to
quickly build their EMS.
Solution:
Using WebNMS Framework, the
WebNMS professional services
team built Captus TM IPS View
EMS.
Solution Highlights:
• FCAPS applications for configuring, managing, and monitoring
Captus IPS 4000 series elements
• Fully-featured SNMP management with trap forwarding for
integration with Network Management Systems, such as HP
OpenView™
• Graphical, color-coded representations of network topologies,
enabling administrators to
determine network status at a
glance
• Support for managing up to 300
Captus IPS 4000 series elements
Captus Networks chose WebNMS
Framework as the platform for their
EMS development project.
Benefits:
WebNMS Framework outscored
the competition by cost-effectively
offering more out-of-the-box
features, excellent development
support, and re-branding option.
• WebNMS Framework helped
Captus Networks gain an edge over
its competitors by having a fullyfeatured element management
system that exceeds customer
expectations.
Apart from the technical criteria, the
highly-collaborative approach, close
working relationship, top-notch
technical support, and the
professional services offered by
WebNMS were the key decision
drivers for this choice.
• Captus Networks leveraged the
fault management capabilities of
WebNMS Framework to make it
easier for their customers to quickly
identify and report significant
threats on their network.

Business Challenge:
Captus Networks wanted to offer its customers an easy-to-use
application for managing the Captus IPS 4000 series elements.
Management of these elements becomes a critical component in
successful implementation of network-based intrusion prevention.
“Using AdventNet, allowed us to focus our engineering resources
on developing our network integrity technology, while simultaneously delivering a fully-featured EMS system to our demanding
service provider customers." - Jack Quinnell, VP of Product
Management, Captus Networks.
Captus Networks decided to build a fully-featured Element
Management System with enterprise grade interoperability and
service provider grade scalability as the Captus IPS 4000 series
elements are deployed in enterprise as well as service provider
networks. Captus Networks wanted the EMS to be comprehensive with full range of FCAPS functionality enabling operators to
configure, manage, and monitor Captus IPS 4000 series elements.
Given a short time-to-market, Captus Networks had to
outsource the EMS development project and evaluated four
vendors. While outsourced solutions offered better overall cost
benefits, Captus Networks also evaluated vendors for breadth of
solution, references, reliability, and financial stability.

color-coded representation of network elements’ status.
Solution:
Captus Networks chose WebNMS Framework as the platform
for their EMS development project.
Using WebNMS Framework, the WebNMS professional
services team built the fully-featured Captus IPS View Element
Management System.
Featuring a full suite of FCAPS applications, Captus IPS View
software provides centralized element management for Captus
IPS 4000 series elements.
Captus IPS View EMS fully leverages the fault management
capability of WebNMS Framework, which is critical for ensuring
high availability that the Captus IPS 4000 series solution offers.
“AdventNet outscored the competition on features, development criteria, and reliability. However, the key deciding criteria
were the highly collaborative approach, close working relationship,
top-notch technical support, and the professional services offered
by AdventNet. - John Ko, Manager, Product Marketing,
