That,tome,isattheveryheartofwhatMIREDisabout.It'sthestoryofamanwhohasliterallyand
figurativelygottenstuck.Stuckinthepast.Stuckinhisgrief.Stuckinhisregret.
WhenIfirstdiscoveredtheshortstoryMUDbyGeoffreyForsyth,Iwastotallytakenbythefactthat
itisn'tjustonething.It'ssad,yetfunny.It'sdark,yetendearingandinspiring.Andthroughallof
that,it'sstillquiteambiguous.Itwasallofthesequalitiesthatlitafirewithininmeandmademe,
bothasanactorandaproducer,wanttoadaptthisstoryintoafilm.TonyGlazerwasthefirst
personIcontactedtoasktowriteanddirectthisadaption--Iknewhewastheperfectchoice--but
thatbeliefwasfurthervalidatedwhenhehadthesamereactiontotheshortstorythatIdid,and
evenmoresowhenIreadhisfantasticadaption,MIRED.
ItismybeliefthatwhatMIREDisreallyabout--whatisreallyhappening--hasthepotentialtobe
differentforeachpersonwatchingitbasedonwhattheybringtoit.Withthatinmind,Ilook
forwardtohearingwhatMIREDwasforyou.

WhenIfirstreadMUDbyGeoffreyForsyth,Ifoundmyselfimmediatelyconfrontedwiththemesof
grief,ambitionandregret.Ultimately,thequestionsfollowed:Isthisreallyhappening?Ifnot,what
ishappening?Althoughfantastical,whydoesitalsoseemfamiliar?Iendeavoredtostayastrueto
thespiritandcontentofthiswonderfulshortstory,butitwasthesequestions–sometimesnagging,
sometimesliberating–thatfoundtheirwayintothescreenplayandultimately,althoughremaining
unanswered,intothefilm,MIRED.ThemoreIworkedontheadaptation,thelessneedIbeganto
haveforanswers.Itwasthemysteryandtheopen-endednatureofthestorythatkeptitrelatable
forme–keptitsprimarymessageintheforefront.Allthatsaid,Iinviteyouenjoythemysteryof
