Modifying Pictures with Microsoft Office Picture Manager

Modifying Pictures with Microsoft Office Picture Manager
Double-clicking on any picture file (.JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) will open them in Microsoft
Office Picture Manager, which lets you browse and edit your pictures.
If the picture you opened is in a
folder with other pictures, these
arrows will let you navigate
through all of the pictures one
at a time.
Use the slider to zoom in to or
out from the picture.
Clicking on Edit Pictures… will open the Edit Pictures menu.
From here you can change the appearance of the photo.
After editing a picture, you can either File > Save to save the
photo in its modified format, or File > Save As… to give it a new
filename (allowing you to keep the original source file intact).
Edit Pictures
Brightness and Contrast – these will affect how light or dark (brightness) a picture is, or
how much the darks stand out from the lights (contrast).
• Move the sliders left or right to adjust the Brightness or Contrast of the entire
picture.
• The Advanced Settings allow you to adjust the Midtones (medium lights/darks),
Highlights (lightest colors) and Shadows (darkest colors) somewhat
independently of the rest of the picture.
Color – change the coloration of the picture.
• Amount is how much color is being added – negative numbers mean add the
“opposite” color.
• Hue is which color is being added (see the colors on the slider itself). If Amount
is negative, the color added will be the complementary color to the one selected.
• Saturation is how deeply the color is added. A Saturation of -100 produces a
black-and-white (or grayscale) image.
Crop – trims the edges of the picture to take out picture
information – where to “cut” the picture.
• The black “handles” on the borders of the
pictures you can click and drag with the mouse
to choose the new size of the picture.
• Alternately, you can use the Left, Right, Top
and Bottom Crop handles settings on the right to
more finely select the edges of the crop.
• When finished cropping, click OK.
Rotate and Flip – turn or reverse the image on an axis.
• These features should be self-explanatory.
Red Eye Removal – use this tool to reduce or remove red-eye from a photograph.
• Click on each eye you want to remove Red Eye from.
• Click OK when finished.
Resize – make the entire picture larger or smaller.
• Predefined width x height lets you choose a
preset size – one-click editing.
• Custom width x height lets you choose
exactly what the dimensions are. (Changing
one dimension will automatically change the
other so that the picture remains proportional.
• Percentage of original width x height lets
you shrink a picture down fairly quickly.
• Once you resize the picture, click OK.
