Hello!
A couple of needs…
On Friday, is anyone able to stay in the morning or come about 10am to
help cut off the tops of pumpkins? The students will be counting the
seeds from their pumpkins before lunch.
Also, is anyone available to come around 1:45 on Friday to help me with
something for the party?
Just email me about either time. Thank you!!

**SUNDAY, November 13th: 4th Grade Medieval Feast. This date is
fast approaching! Please begin collecting any recyclable materials
including paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, cereal boxes, Pringles
cans - really anything that is not metal or glass. Students will use
these materials to create castles the week before the Feast. The
more materials we have, the more fun it is for the kids to create
awesome castles. We are also in need of 10-15 strong pieces of
cardboard about 4 feet by 4 feet for the castles to be built on.
If anyone has any connections or knows where to get this
cardboard, please let me know ASAP.

Dads, please mark this day on your calendar. More information to
come.

Math:
We continue using bar models to assist in the solving of word problems.
Bar models can be tricky, but they are incredibly helpful - especially
when solving the more difficult word problems. Mrs. Dowdy and I are
working to find a time to have a session to meet with parents to explain
about bar models and answer any other questions about Singapore. I
will let you know as soon as I know a date and time. (I know this was in
last week’s letter, but we do not have a time set up yet.)
We will continue moving forward with word problems and multiplication.
This Week:
*Math Minutes 40-43
*Math Sprints 319B, 320A, 320B, 321A
CKLA Unit 1 Personal Narrative:
We will continue “Food From the Outside.” This story has three parts,
so it will take us a bit to finish the entire story. We will continue
looking at sensory details and descriptive language as well as showing,
not telling in our writing. Ask your student about the difference
between showing and telling.
Core Knowledge Literature:
We will continue reading The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington
Irving. Ask your student to describe Ichabod Crane.
Spelling Connections:
Unit 4 test was on Friday. Unit 5 pretest will be Tuesday, and we will
work with Unit 5 words during the week. Please look for a Unit 5 list to
come home on Tuesday.
Map Skills:
*As we study Medieval Europe, we will continue to work on map skills so
that students become very familiar with maps and how to read them.
Meteorology:
*We will finish looking at lightning, tornadoes, hurricanes, and safety.
Medieval Europe:
We will be reading about Gloomy Castles and Jousting Knights.
Students will continue to compare the different life styles of the
times - looking at life on a manor vs. life in a town.
Colorado History:
*As we focus on Medieval Europe, I will be holding off on Colorado
History for a bit.
**The website is not quite up to date. I am working to add more
information about our class events and more specifics about our
Medieval Europe unit.
The link, however, remains the same:

I hope this letter gives you a good idea what will be happening in class
this week. I tried to include everything, but I’m sure I forgot
something, so please let me know if you have any questions.
Take good care.
