Professional Experience
Head of Technical Services
Duties: Oversee acquisitions, serials, cataloging, and ILS functions of Coleman Karesh Law
Library. Revise, develop, and implement policies, practices, and procedures of Technical
Services Department in conjunction with library trends, best practices, and ROI concepts. Institute
and monitor department and library-wide improvement projects. Develop Technical Services wiki
to document and standardize library practices and procedures. ILS Duties: Perform system
administrator functions for Innovative Interfaces Millennium ILS. Train staff to proficiently utilize
Millennium. Financial Duties: Implement library materials budget. Monitor and control library
expenditures via Excel spreadsheets and the Millennium ILS. Monitor monograph selectors
purchases. Prepare monthly expenditure reports for Library Director. Set up ERM to monitor
contracts. Standardize ordering, invoicing, and outputting vouchers codes and procedures.
Introduce GOBI3 online ordering. Set up YBP and ABA approval plans and McNaughton rental
program. Contract with EBL for implementation of DDA. Establish electronic invoicing and
claiming practices and procedures. Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual statistical reports.
Personnel Duties:. Hire, direct, train, supervise, and evaluate library staff (1 full-time acquisitions
librarian, 1 part-time cataloger, 2 full-time library assistants, 1 part-time serials assistant, 4 parttime MLS candidates).Write job descriptions and define expectations for staff performance: assist
individuals in setting annual goals. Compile review and planning documents for each employee.
Evaluate each employee per university EPMS policies. Emphasize teamwork and collaboration at
all times. Collection Management/Cataloging Duties: Oversee cataloging and classification of
the collection. Setup profiles and download e-book records into the ILS. Implement RDA
cataloging procedures. Weed collection in preparation for library move. Remove 32,000+
volumes from annex. Establish practices and procedures for inventorying the collection and
complete the task. Create LibGuides for faculty review of possible discards. Serials: Redo all
serials records. Create new check-in records and check-in cards for current titles. Set the

Millennium system to automatically update MARC holdings statements and create item records
when individual issues are checked in. Train serials’ assistant to create check-in records and
check-in cards on Millennium. Chair PASCAL statewide Catalog Design Committee.
Assistant Director for Technical Services
Duties: Oversee all acquisitions, serials, cataloging, and statistics gathering functions of the
Charlotte School of Law Library. Develop and implement policies, practices, and procedures for
technical services. Institute and monitor department and consortia improvement projects.
Investigate new trends in systems, services, materials, and equipment to improve overall library
operation. Financial Duties: In conjunction with the Associate Dean plan, implement and monitor
library budget and prepare annual accreditation reports for the ABA. Oversee Library payroll on
ADP. Track Library expenditures via Excel spreadsheets and Innovative Interfaces ILS. Prepare
statistical reports for Library Director and Management Committee. Standardize library budget
codes for Infilaw consortium. ILS Duties: Install Millennium ILS. Act as the system administrator.
Train staff to utilize all modules. Online catalog up and running within six weeks of hire.
Collection Management Duties: Develop and maintain a system of library records providing
access to the library’s collections and databases. Oversee the ordering, cataloging, and
classification of materials in all formats. Train librarians and staff to receive MARC records from
OCLC via the z39.50 gateway. Download electronic records into the ILS. Train serials librarian
and staff to create check-in records and online check-in cards for all serial materials. Develop
Academic Success, Center for Professional Development, and Human Resources satellite
collections. Move the entire collection and archive from the Morehead Street location to Suttle
Avenue. RFID Project: RFID tag all physical volumes in collection. Sync tags with Millennium
ILS. Train staff to conduct continuous inventory with RFID wand and to monitor circulation
activities. Personnel Duties: Hire, direct, train, supervise, and evaluate library staff (4 full-time
and 13 part-time staff members). Compile job scopes and write job descriptions: administer
Charlotte School of Law personnel policies. Define expectations for staff performance: assist
individuals in setting annual goals based on cascading ISOs of upper management. Train staff in
continuous improvement techniques. Work as a team to resolve problems. Oversee the
development of the Technical Services wiki. Sit on the consortium-wide Library Best Practices
Committee and Millennium Best Practices Committee.
Senior Library Training Consultant
Consult with libraries globally on all aspects of library operation: circulation, cataloging, serials,
acquisitions, interlibrary loan, electronic resources management, and Web OPAC design. Train
libraries to implement and customize the Innovative Interfaces Integrated Library System to work
in conjunction with their established practices and procedures. Test the functionality of the
Millennium modules prior to training. Set up hardware as needed. Set eos, customer options,
login manager settings, controlled behaviors and preferences, initials, authorizations, and World
Wide Web Options. Create examples and customized handouts to use during training, Spend 2 to
4 days (8 hours per day) on site conducting hands-on training on each Innovative module.
Consult with client to determine needed modifications/customizations to software. Install
network/system printers and FTP software as needed. Resolve any hardware/software issues
that arise during training. Follow up with customer regarding outstanding training issues or
problems. Answer all functionality questions; serve as functionality expert.
Director of Library and Information Services
Duties: Administer all library functions of the Ross School. Oversee the operation of the High
School, Middle School, Wellness, and Senior Building libraries. Develop and implement all library
policies and procedures. Administrative Duties: Develop annual information services strategic

plan. Prepare clear, concise, comprehensive reports for the Head of School. Manage installation
of Innovative Interfaces library automation system. Oversee and manage the design and
development of the library Web site and installation of other electronic resources. Investigate new
trends in services, teaching techniques, materials, and equipment to improve library operations.
Financial Duties: Plan and implement the annual library materials budget: monitor all library

Information Manager / Assistant Regional Library Director
Duties: Oversee all functions of busy Reference Department. Personnel Duties: Schedule,
supervise, train, and evaluate information specialists/reference librarians and staff (3 full-time
librarians; 12 clerks). Define expectations for staff performance; set goals for service. Administer
centralized personnel policies. Financial/Administrative Duties: Review and submit payroll time
sheets to Regional Library Director. Account for branch funds according to established
procedures. Reconcile Dynix reports. Oversee repair and service of library computers. Maintain
branch appearance in accordance with Library Appearance Guidelines. Reference Duties:
Answer reference and catalog inquiries. Assist patrons in the use of research and electronic
resources. Take reserves on books, magazines, CDs, and videos. Interlibrary loan requested
materials. Perform readers’ advisory services. Collection Development Duties: Develop
reference and adult fiction and nonfiction collections; read reviews, recommend new and
