NEWS FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY APRIL 2017 April has been a month of exploration and adventures. First, we had our Bumble Bee Brains for Blue and Green classes. Then, all the classes had an Easter hunt and, finally, we had a school trip to the Stefanikova Observatory. We also had a special guest visit from Bricks for Kidz which the children really enjoyed. Spring is in full force so don’t forget to bring those rain suits and boots. News from the Yellow Class Last month we continued to talk about Spring, this time, from animals point of view. We discussed animals on a farm, their pups and sounds. We read books about them like "Farm", "Farm Animal Friends" and “On the Farm“. We sang songs "Old McDonald Had a Farm" and "Baa Baa Black Sheep". We practised our memory with animal flash-cards, farm puzzles and played games like "What do the animals say?" or "Who's that?". We also had a Bumble Bee Brains competition during the month. We checked out our logic and maths skills. We also tested our knowledge of colours, numbers, and shapes in different tasks and games. It wasn't about wining but about having fun and enjoying the games. The winner was everyone who joined in. Of course we spent a lot of time working on Easter projects. We planted seeds of spring grass, decorated Easter eggs, made very cute paper Easter chicks and went looking for surprises the Easter bunny left for us. With the weather getting nicer we also spent more and more time outdoors. We went for walks and played in the garden with motorbikes and cars, which will be part of our next topic. Have a nice rest of spring, Petra News From The Red Class In April we continued with a Spring theme. The books we read, the songs we sang or projects we made were all attached to this topic. We also enjoyed preparing for the Easter season, talked about our traditions, decorated the flowerpots, planted the seeds, made cute Easter bunnies and as every year we organized an Easter egg hunt in our garden. In April we took a part in BB brain competition, which included accomplishing variety of counting tasks, color recognition, object sorting and worksheet activities. We were also introduced to a project "Bricks for Kidz" and had a great time using the lego blocks some other way then we are used to. We continuously work on expanding our vocabulary by using new phrases, correct prepositions...and we try to use as much English as we are able in communication among each other. In April we celebrated two birthdays. Samík and Adam turned 4 and we wish them all the best! Very interresting was a trip to the Observatory, were we saw a movie about the Sun, could touch the real meteorite and could look through the telescope. Next month topic will be all about transport and travelling. Oli News from the Blue Class April was a month of exploration. We had a Bumble Bee Brain week which the children really had fun with; putting together puzzles, learning Sudoku, and memory drawing games. The Easter hunt was very exciting and the children loved the presents the Easter bunny left for them. We also had a special guest, Bricks for Kidz, who taught the children how to make Pokémon characters and a flower garden. The children had a wonderful time learning how to build Pikachu from Legos. During this month, our main topics were planet Earth, our solar system, and galaxies. We discussed what our planet is made of and how it looks from space. We talked about what is in space near our planet and made rockets out of paper. Our solar system was a big topic. We went through all eight planets in our solar system and made a replica of it out of paper. We discussed what our sun is made of and what the temperature is like on it. We also discussed other galaxies and what they are. We had a fun discussion about whether there is life in other galaxies and what that life might look like. We had a wonderful trip to the observatory; our guide showed us how we study the stars and how important it is to understand how our sun affects our planet. Spring is in full force and we are enjoying the warm weather when we can. We have been going to the nearby parks and enjoying the sun when it decides to come out. We are now getting ready for next month’s adventure, school in nature. I hope to see you there. Have a wonderful spring season. Holly New From Will’s Green Class The month of April was a great success for our Green Class. We were able to enjoy all of the beautiful weather as well as enjoy the holidays with our families. We have continued to work on our social skills within the classroom. This month was all about when is someone being mean or when someone is just joking. We have worked really hard trying to handle these situations without the teacher and the kids have done a great job!! We have really enjoyed both the space crafts from this month as well as the Easter crafts to celebrate the holiday. One of our favorite crafts was building UFO’s out of paper plates. We had a great discussion about whether or not we believe aliens exist in outer space. The kids came up with some great arguments and examples for their answers! The UFO’s turned out great and they can even fly! We also talked about all the stars in the sky and how the sun is a big star. After, we looked at star constellations and then we pick our favorite and created them on paper. We have taken a lot of time to learn all about the solar systems and the planets that are inside of the milky way galaxy. Furthermore, we created our Easter grass. We decorated the pots and each kid was responsible for watering his or her own grass. Hopefully it is still living nicely in your homes. The best part of Easter was our Easter egg hunt as well as our Easter egg race!! The kids found their baskets and then competed in a boys versus girls Easter egg race with real eggs. The kids had a great time!! Finally, we enjoyed our trip to the observatory, we learned all about space and how we use telescopes to study space. The kids were even allowed to use the telescope to study the sun! This month has been a lot of fun for the green class and we look forward to the month of May and the start of our practice for the summer show! Will News from David‘s Green Class This month our subject was space. As usual, to help the children explore the subject we have done lots of mixed media projects including our giant spaceship project which the children had a great time making. Thank you all for your contributions for the parts for the ships. The children now have sense of scale to our universe and an idea of the basic physics that hold it all together. Our trip to the observatory was also a good educational treat. This month also included Easter. The egg hunt was great fun, especially with egg and spoon race which was highly entertaining. We also finally got our Easter grass to grow. Apparently we had some faulty seeds! This month we also began work on he summer show, Eighty Days Around The World. It's always a lot of work and an exciting climax to the end of year. Any help you can give in familiarising the children with their lines would be greatly appreciated. Lastly we also had our BB brains competition, it was hard fought but congratulations to this years winners who had equal points, Eliška and Rebeka.
