CALCANEODYNIA
Calcancodynia is the name for a medical condition responsible for a dull,
aching pain in the area of the Achilles tendon where it joins the heel bone. This
is not uncommon among adolescents, most often occurring in both boys and girls
between the ages of eight and fourteen. The pain is the result of inflammation of
the Achilles tendon at the point where it attaches to the bone. The pain seems to
be coming "right from the heel bone" (its common description), and most
diagnoses are made based on this symptom. There may also be some tenderness
in the Achilles tendon itself. Pain generally is intensified by weight bearing,
bending the foot back, or squeezing the area.
At some point in their lives, most people suffer from some kind of foot
disorder - from tendon and muscle pain to nerve disorders, from blisters and corns,
to hammcrtocs and bunions. Whatever the state of your feet, your podiatrist can
treat your problem to restore your comfort and ease of movement, and recommend followup action you can take at home. For family foot care, please call our
office at 234-5571, located at Rice Medical Center. I am there every Tuesday.
P.S. Adolescent calcancodynia may affect only one foot or both simultaneously. Heel lifts often help.

This year's theme is "Open A BookOn With The show!"
Stage-struck youngsters from four
years to grade six can read books,
listen to stories, and participate in fun
activities at the library.
The show opens Wednesday, June
16, and runs through Aug. 4 from 2 to

make VBS so popular with children
and their parents.
On top of that, they will be helping
kids grow in their love for God and
learn to share his love with others.
Pastor Mercy Fling commented on
the music, "The Gospel Light curriculum that we use has the best songs that
we have found. Each year we find our
children singing these songs for
months to come."
Everything draws to a joyful conclusion at the end of the week with the
Great Feast... an extended time of
games, food and fun for children and
parents.
Living Hope is looking forward to
this very special opportunity to reach
out to parents and children in our
neighborhood, and share with them
the joy of developing a personal relationship with God. More classes and
teachers are being added again this
year to accommodate the overflow
crowds that have come the last three
years when the Bible School attracted
over 100 children.
"This year's Bible stories are
among the best that we've had," says
Pastor Joe Fling. "Stories about Jesus'
life and the familiar stories such as the
Parable of the Talents are used to illustrate the theme of using Our Gifts for
God. If you enjoyed VBS as achild, do
not let your children miss this year's
adventure."
Son Castle Faire Bible School
begins Monday, June 14, and continues through Friday, June 18; each day
from 9 a.m. until noon, at Living Hope
Church on the corner of N. McCarty
and Church Streets in Eagle Lake.
Children who are four years old
through those finishing eighth grade
are welcome.
For more information, call Pastor
Mercy Fling at 409-234-3710.
Hank Snow, Merle Haggard and John

Brewer and the original River Road
Boys, with steel guitarist Herb Remington, a Western Swing Hall of
Famer who was with the Texas Playboys in the late 1940s and early 1950s,
and Joel Brewer. Clyde Brewer, a
legend in his own right in Texas music, is the stepson of Shelley Lee Alley.
Returning as master of ceremonies
for the sixth straight year will be Hall
of Fame disk jockey Larry Scott, who
emcees the all-night radio show
KVOO in Tulsa, Okla.
Tickets for the show, which is
expected to be a sell-out for the fourth

Walser, a 64-year old National
Guard retiree, has been hailed as the
nation's greatest country classic revivalist since he began his career in
music in 1994 with the release of his
critically acclaimed debut album
"Rolling Stone from Texas".
Walser followed up in 1996 with a
second album, "Texas Top Hand",
and in 1998 released "Down at the
Sky-Vue Drive-In", which received
rave reviews in Playboy, USA Today
and other newspapers across the nation. Houston Chronicle music critic
Rick Mitchell adamantly declares
Walser to be "the best cowboy singer
in Texas".
Walser has been featured on
ABC's Prime Time Live and National
Public Radio's popular Fresh Air and
All Things Considered programs. His
latest credits include performances on
sound tracks of the movies The Horse
Whisperer and High Low Country.
