NOTE:IfyouareenteringacompetitionoutsideoftheFrankstonPhotographicClub,makecertainthatyouread
andunderstandtheirdefinitions.Often,theywillbedifferent.
Landscape
Landscapephotographycomprisesthevisiblefeaturesofanareaofland,includingthephysicalelementsoflandforms
suchas(ice-capped)mountains,hills,waterbodiessuchasrivers,lakesandponds.Theimagemayincludeevidenceof
man-madeobjects,people,animalsandpartoftheocean/sea,providedthatnoneoftheseadditionalelements
dominatetheimage.
Seascapes
Seascapesincludephotographsofnaturalcoastalscenery,awavestudyorpictureoftheopenseaprovidedthatthesea
isthecentreofinterest.People,boatsandman-madestructuresmaybepresentonlyasincidentaltotheimage.
Flowers
Mainsubjectoftheimagehastobeflowers,asingleflowerorpartthereof,driedoraspartofthelivingplant,macro
photographycanbeusedforthissubjecttoshowdetailsandtexturesnotnormallyseen.Anymanipulationsor
modificationtotheoriginalimageislimitedtominorretouchingofblemishesandmustnotaltertheoriginalscene.
ZooAnimals
AnytypeofanimalkeptinaZoo,GameParksorOpenRangeZoo,imagesmaycontainactualcagesorfences.
Sport
Imagescapturedduringsportingeventstotellastory,capturethemomentorshowfastactionshots.Indoorand
outdoorsportseventsarebothpermitted
AnzacDay
ImageswhichpredictallAnzacDayCommemorationrelatedfeaturethedawnservicesatwarmemorialsaroundthe
countryoroverseas,marches,poppies,gamesoftwoupetc.
Open
Anytypeofimagecanbesubmittedaslongasitisdeemednottobeoffensivetoanyclubmember.

Architecture
Animageofoneormorebuildingsorstructures,orportionof(oldornew,interiororexterior)whichemphasizes
naturalform,shape,designorcurves.Thearchitecturemustbethemajorpartoftheimage,notthelandscape
surroundingit.
Portraits
Imagesofaperson/peoplefromheadtofull-lengthstudies.Imagesofindividualsorgroupsofpeoplearepermittedand
mayincludeaccessoriesorbackgroundsthatareincharacterwiththesubjectbuttheseshouldnotdominatethe
photograph.Includescandidphotographs,environmentalportraitsandformalstudioportraits.Animalscanbe
includedwheretheyarenotthemajorcomponentoftheimage.i.e.aphotoofaseniorcitizenwiththeirpetcataslong
asthecatisofminorimportancetotheimage.
Creative
Creativeimagesshoulddisplayanoveleffectbecauseofanunusualcombinationofobjectsand/orunusualviewpoint.
Theyareimagesthathavebeenmodifiedduringorafterexposureorbyusingsoftwaremanipulation.Theimagemust
haveaphotographicbasiswiththeoriginalworkbeingtakenbytheentrant.Otherexamplesaretriptych,opposites,
colour,series/sequencesetc.
Water
Themainsubjectoftheimagehastowaterinanyform:puddles,droplets,foam,splashes,fogetc..Seascapesare
notpermitted.
Streetphotography
StreetPhotographycapturespeopleandplacesincandidsituationswithinpublicplacessuchasstreets,markets,
galleries,subways,etc.(anywhereaslongasthepubliccanenterandleaveastheypleaseandyouareallowedto
photograph).Streetphotographscanbeamirrorofsocietydisplayingsceneswithusuallyunawaresubjectsandcanbe
takenanytimeofthedayornight.
Monochrome:
AnimageisconsideredtobeMonochromeonlyifitgivestheimpressionofhavingnocolor(i.e.containsonlyshadesof
graywhichcanincludepureblackandpurewhite)ORitgivestheimpressionofbeingagreyscaleimagethathasbeen
tonedinonecoloracrosstheentireimage.(ForexamplebySepia,red,gold,etc.)Agreyscaleormulti-coloredimage
modifiedorgivingtheimpressionofhavingbeenmodifiedbypartialtoning,multi-toningorbytheinclusionofspot
coloringdoesnotmeetthedefinition.
