I’m excited that Anna will be donating to the Books Against Bullying Campaign. Her book looks awesome!
If you could choose a world without loneliness, without shame, grief, misery, or feeling of any kind, would you, if it
also meant that you lost the simple pleasure of a picnic on a sunny day, or the joy of falling in love? Could you
choose between feeling pain and not feeling anything, ever again? A girl is caught in a dream-like world where this
choice is being fiercely contested. Catapulted into the cross-fire between the Red and White empires, she must
choose between emotion and oblivion. The Red Army is fighting passionately in support of reaction and response,
to preserve a person’s right to feel, at any costs. The White Army, led by a mysterious dictator known only as The
Pure One, is hell-bent on destroying the insurgent Reds, believing their emotional vulnerability and sentimentality
to be a weakness and a threat to civil stability. The Pure One has decided to promote a policy of unfeeling, of
catatonic detachment throughout humanity. As she witnesses the conflict first-hand, the girl is forced to consider
her position, only to find herself confronted by her own desperate ambivalence. As her tentative friendship with a
young boy leads the girl into the heart of the Red resistance movement, she learns about the power of fellow
feeling for the first time. As the battle intensifies, she must keep her identity a secret in order to decide for herself if
what she really wants is all that is White, or in fact, all that is Red.

WHAT ANNA SAYS ABOUT BULLYING
Bullying is serious. Some people look at it as harmless teasing on the playground, but it only starts there. Words,
even those that are seemingly inconsequential, leave their marks on people. They turn into thoughts and ideas
which never truly leave you– “What if I’m not good enough?” “What if I’m unlovable?” They’re always in the back of
your mind. There are consequences to bullying. Self harm, which includes cutting, burning, and eating disorders,
has become an alarming trend in the US as well as the rest of the world. How much of a contribution does bullying
make to these disorders? At what point does a child dread encountering bullies so much that he stops going to
class? According to Stomp Out Bullying, 8% of students miss at least 1 day of class per month for fear of Bullies. Any
decrease in bullying is bound to have a positive effect. It will spare many the pain and dangerous effects of
questioning their self-worth.
“You are good enough and you are loved.”
