Swimming Lesson Guide
Working in Partnership
legacyleisure
Introduction
Aquazone is our swimming lesson programme, which operates in
partnership with the Amateur Swimming Association’s National Plan
for Teaching Swimming. The programme offers group lessons for both
children and adults. Aquazone believe swimming is a life skill which
everyone should have the opportunity to master in their lifetime. We
are dedicated to ensuring that, whatever their age or ability, everyone
can have fun whilst learning to swim!
Hat Provision
Each member of Aquazone will be issued with a swimming hat at the
start of each stage. The colour coding of the hats will match the ASA
stage colour.
We believe no one is too old or young to start learning. With that in
mind our swimming lesson programme is designed to suit all ages and
abilities. Our swimming lesson programme is endorsed by the ASA
(Amateur Swimming Association) which ensures our teachers are
experienced, fully qualied and inspiring. Lesson programmes follows
the ASA National Plan, which simply gives everyone a badge and a
certicate as they progress. Swimming is an important life skill. Contact
us today to learn how we can help you and your family swim well.
Continuous Assessment
Aquazone follow the ASA learn to swim framework through continuous
assessment. Continuous assessment allows swimmers to progress
through the various swim stages at their own pace, rather than having
to t around a set timetable or wait till the end of a time to move up a
stage. Learners therefore progress at a steadier and more personal
rate, optimising the opportunity for them to full their potential as a
swimmer. Tuition continues throughout the year and progress is
recorded during each lesson ensuring that the swimmers ability is
continually assessed. As soon as a learner meets the outcomes of the
current stage they will be moved into the next stage as soon as space
becomes available.
Certicates and Badges
The ASA Learn to Swim pathway will allow your child to achieve 25+
swimming badges and certicates which are available to purchase at
reception.

experience for all children. These awards are perfect for babies, and
toddlers and pre-school children who are new to swimming lessons.
Ideal for gaining water condence while staying close to adult support.
Our pre-school program for children aged 3 years+.
Parents do not need to go in the water with their child.
Discovery Ducklings 1: 3-12mths
Introduces your baby into water and will encourage early condence
with the use of nursery rhymes and special teaching practices.
Discovery Ducklings 2: 1-3 years
Developing skills and building condence already introduced in
Discovery Ducklings 1. Children will be at ease with having their face
splashed with water and travel through the water on their front and
backs.
Discovery Ducklings 3: 1-3 years
Children will be working towards swimming with buoyancy aids but
without support from the adult. Happy to get their faces and heads
wet and be happy to be submerged under the water. They will work
towards being able to jump with support from the adult.
Discovery Ducklings 4: 1-3 years
Developing that step to swim with no aids, with the close support of
the adult in the water. This class will work towards the swimmer be
able to submerge themselves under the water, to listen and
understand instruction directly from the teacher. To jump into the
water with no assistance and return to side.
Duckling Awards are the next step on from the Discovery Duckling
Awards. They are designed to help toddlers enjoy learning to swim
without help from their parents or guardians. Ducklings 1 will see
children start to move by themselves in the water. By Ducklings 4
your child will be jumping in, going underwater, floating and swimming
ve metres without support. Duckling Awards are great at promoting
increased independence and water condence, to help prepare for
