Patrons: Mr Bill Scott Ms Frances Bedford JP MLA Correspondence: ACFEAB PO Box 66 Belair SA 5052 0409 521990 [email protected] Examiners Advisory Board In 2013, 2278 candidates at all levels from Test to Gold Medal presented to qualified Examiners in all states and territories. For the first time in approximately 15 years Gold Medal Honours candidates performed at the ACF National Championships. This was well received and will continue to be a high priority in future planning. Gold Medal Honours Congratulations Amy Bickford (VIC) Gold Medal Honours 2013 Amy commenced Calisthenics at the age of 4 and is now completing her 21st year as a performer – at the Robynmore Calisthenics College. Amy completed her skill levels to Grade 4 and has represented Victoria at a national level on 6 occasions. Throughout her Calisthenics journey Amy has enjoyed solo and team success at the ACF National Competitions and achieved her dream of winning the ‘Royal South Street Most Graceful Girl Competition’ in 2009. Achieving Gold Medal Honours celebrates 16 years of collaboration with her coach Jenny Godber. Amy writes: “I have been extremely lucky to have an exceptionally talented and dedicated coach in Jenny for the past 16 years. Aspiring to achieve the Calisthenics Gold Medal with Honours was a goal that we were eager to challenge ourselves with. It gave me the opportunity to further my Calisthenics knowledge as well as create and perfect challenging combinations and movements. I was proud to have achieved honours in the Gold Medal parts 1 and 2 and then the opportunity to strive for the Gold Medal with Honours. It was an achievement that I would recommend fellow participants to aspire to. I immensely enjoyed being given the freedom and opportunity to showcase my talents.” EAB newsletter No.14 Congratulations Natasha Parkhurst (VIC) Gold Medal Honours 2013 Natasha started calisthenics at the age of three at Leawarra Calisthenics Club and moved to Jeaden Calisthenics College in 2002 for an opportunity to compete in the championship division. Over the past twelve years at Jeaden she feels privileged to have been part of some very successful teams. On 9 occasions she has also had the honour of representing Victoria as part of the State Team from Sub-Juniors through to Seniors. Natasha writes : During my 22 years of being involved with calisthenics I have had the chance to work with many dedicated and talented coaches who have shared their love of the sport with me. Being a calisthenics girl has also taught me valuable life lessons and along the way I have made many close friends. The highlights of my calisthenics career include being placed as a national soloist four times, fifth at the RSSS Graceful Girl in 2007, and being awarded the Jeaden CC award for excellence in 2011. Well done, Amy and Natasha Gold Medal Honours is a huge achievement. March 2014 Gold Medal While Gold Medal Honours is the pinnacle, achieving a Gold Medal is a huge accomplishment and the EAB are delighted to acknowledge the following successful candidates. Congratulations to Laura and Rebeca Laura Brummell, Victorian Gold Medalist 2013 Laura commenced Calisthenics at the age of five (5) at Heathergene Calisthenics Club. Following the closure of this club when she was 15 years Laura transferred to Ceres Calisthenics Club where she has been a competitor for the past 7 years. In 2013 Laura’s team were the CVI and RSSS champions for the Senior Championship division. Laura has also been a member of the Victorian State Team Senior team for the past 6 years and has enjoyed being coached by a range of Victoria’s top coaches, and being National Champions in 2008, 2010 and 2013. She has also competed in both Calisthenics and Graceful solos for many years and has achieved success in both solos at many competitions including CVI and VCCA. Laura was coached by Roberta Dwyer-Smith for the Medal Program and achieved the Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals in three consecutive years – 2011 to 2013. Her interest in the Skills program began at an early age, when she aspired to not just complete Grade 4, but to work through and achieve her Gold Medal. Laura would like to thank Roberta for all of her support and encouragement throughout her Medals experience. Achieving this honour was ‘a dream come true’ for a little girl who fell in love with Calisthenics at an early age and has never looked back. Rebecca Reber ACT Gold Medalist 2013 I started calisthenics at the age of 4 and the rest is, as they say, history. Since then, I have been heavily involved at both club and national level, competing both as a team member and as a soloist, representing the ACT at 8 National Championships. Besides performing and the many firm friendships which I have formed over my 17 years of calisthenics, my favourite thing about this sport is striving to improve - challenging myself to become the best I can be, testing my limits and forging new pathways for the ACT girls of the future. Throughout my journey towards Gold I have learnt so many new things that have contributed to improving my skills and calisthenic technique. I had the opportunity to work with several different coaches, both local and interstate and I would especially like to thank Jenny Godber for her encouragement and expertise. I would also like to thank three special ACT coaches for all their time and effort – Elizabeth Arnold, Rose Booth and Rachel Holdway. I am very proud to be the ACT’s first Gold Medallist. This has been such a rewarding experience and I would encourage all calisthenic participants to aspire to this achievement.
