The Social Challenge: What Impression Do You Make?

The Social Challenge: What Impression Do You Make?
As indicated in the SPN, I manage Haselfre Health & Wellness business. After going through the first two weeks
of lessons, I have learnt the following and tried to incorporate in our business.

From the ‘Thin Slice Research’ we have realized the value of making a very quick impression on the
audience. As part of our marketing effort, we conduct several workshops among Corporate prospects,
Schools and entities that promote parental gathering. We have involved all our marketing and sales
staff and arrived at guidelines to ensure a positive, confident and cheerful beginning within the first
30 seconds to one minute. We have tried this in the last three workshops conducted this week and
has proved beneficial. It also ties in what we have learnt from ‘Impression Management’.
Like every organization, we too have to persuade prospective clients to sell our products and services.
Since many of our initiatives involve dealing with clients having some issues, ‘fear’ is one of the tools.
From the lesson, we have learnt to use it optimally; added to that is our ‘no refund policy’ – another
valuable lesson!
While persuading, we are actively listening; first, we listen to assess how receptive we are to the
customer’s point of view. Second, we are listening for their specific objections, which we know we
will have to resolve. Last, we are listening for moments of agreement so we can capitalize on
consensus and create a connection!
We are using ‘Social Influence Marketing’ to market to customers and keep them engaged. This can
be seen in our presence online – Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, SMS etc. We move beyond the ‘search’
paradigm to ‘sharing’.
In our initiatives dealing with management of lifestyle issues, we often use ‘Self Fulfilling’ prophecy
techniques and bring about positive loop between attitude, belief and behaviour
We are having a re-look at the incentive policy based on what we learnt on ‘cognitive dissonance’..
We have also crafted a unique non-meditational technique to build ‘will power’ – an essential
attribute when our clients have to follow instructions on a daily basis for ‘Life Style Management’.
