Chicago is a city of ethnic neighborhoods and the people place great emphasis on maintaining the food patterns of their culture of origin. On this tour we will visit four of these neighborhoods. Our guide will answer all of your questions about all of the exotic ingredients. Not only will she tell you how it is prepared but also its discovery, cultural history and any unique properties. Be sure to bring an appetite, along with some extra change, because you will be sampling and tasting lots of things. Many people stock up on ethnic grocery supplies and/or plan to do some of their holiday gift shopping on the tour. For lunch we will stop at Reza’s – a Persian restaurant that has a wonderful buffet with numerous vegetable and meat dishes to choose from. Considerable walking will be involved. Trip includes bus transportation on the ICC CougarBus, tour fees, and buffet lunch. Our journey begins with a lovely candlelit four-course gourmet dinner with wine pairings. So that we can truly indulge ourselves, Salt in Peoria Heights will open their doors exclusively to us for the night. Following dinner we will visit Luthy Botanical Gardens for their annual poinsettia and candlelight walk. On our trip we will be accompanied by a professional horticulturist who works at the gardens and teaches for ICC. She will discuss the different holiday plants as well as the history and workings of Luthy Botanical Gardens. To continue the holiday mood we will finish the night by driving down Grandview Drive while listening to holiday favorites.
